B2 The Keep on the Borderlands G2 The Glacial Rift of the Frost Giant Jarl (really the whole G series, but this one in particular) I7 Baltron's Beacon S2 White Plume Mountain Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to play any C&C adventures. White Plume Mountain is a blast. That was the last modu...

Re: outsiders
Yeah, good luck with that:)
I think various terms and verbiage from virtually every edition of D&D creep into C&C products and their lax approach to copy editing ensures that will continue to be the case. Consider it part of the charm of C&C at this point....

Re: New Kickstarter GG's World Building 10
Can't see anything I'd use here. But I've been blowing lots of money with TLG lately and I'm probably going to grab The Undying War hardcover at some point so I'm not feeling remorse at passing on this one.

Re: Best / Favorite Adventure ?
Hmmm, tough one. I'll split them by categories/systems: AD&D GDQ Series (Q1 is so-so, but the first time running these was so amazing) T1-4 (We were playing this when the Challenger crashed) S3--Lost Caverns of Tsjocanth (Love how the outdoor stuff works & many cool monsters) B/X X4-5--Deser...

Hey Gang,
I'm questionable for tonight as I've got to leave my place for an early morning flight to the West coast around 3:00 AM. If I get my preparations done and nothing else comes up, I may log in for a bit.

Re: Shadows of the Halfling Hall starting level
Way back in the day I ran it for a group of newly created level 1 PCs and it was fine. I don't think there were any deaths. Now the follow-up adventure was a different story. But if you have a level 2 PC or two, it shouldn't be too tough.

Re: New Codices
Yeah, not so much. There's stuff on weapons used in history with damages and few pages with some martial arts techniques. Some can be combined with qi powers and be pretty deadly as you can get more attacks. This is much more interesting if you're not using the nerfed C&C monk damage tables. But...

Re: New Codices
For crafting a game, it's like pretty much all the Codices. A bit dense and hard to follow at times, but you can do some really cool stuff with it. And it's easy enough to add what you like and ignore the other stuff. The adventure, by the way, which was an add-on, is not bad. Pretty straightforward...

Re: New Codices
Got my Codex Sinarum on Thursday. It's okay, not great. As a specialist in Chinese history and culture (though not religion), I don't want to be too critical, but I'll offer initial impressions. The history is generally accurate with a few errors. There are plenty of deities, though as others have m...

Making my second pass through the massive and quite excellent "Gods of the Forbidden North" from Pulp Hummock Press. A fun mix of 80s fantasy/pop culture, real world history, Hyperborea, and Alaskan folklore. And this 477 page tome is just volume 1 of 3. Written for OSE, so could easily be...

So is tomorrow a game night for "Night Below?" I've got a dinner thing for work, but should be home around 9:00 PM Central. So I can try and jump online then if we're playing. Same scenario next week (we have job candidates coming in), but I should be good going forward after that. Sorry g...

Anyone Have The Undying War?
So, in a recent interview on Youtube Steve was talking about The Undying War, which is the hardcover, omnibus edition of A0-12. Does anyone here have it? If so, how is it? Steve said they cleaned up errata and made a few other changes in addition to updated and colorized art. We've played up through...

Nope; they had said there was a shipping break for about ten days in mid-December. I'm pretty close to Arkansas so it usually takes 2 days once I get my shipping notice, which I haven't received yet.

Re: Siege w/o Challenge Ratings
Another thing I've seen folks do for spells is use the actual spell level rather than the caster level as the CL. That would certainly change things and bring them closer to AD&D, though it's not quite the same scaling.

Re: Siege w/o Challenge Ratings
Have you never played pre-WOTC D&D? It's pretty simple. Your saves get better as you level up. Though the DM could impose situational modifiers, the level of the foe is generally irrelevant. So whether it's a hatchling or an ancient dragon, your save is just based on your level. What this means,...

Mostly hand waving, though for spells I try to keep close track. Also for conditions caused by spells like paralysis etc. Torches I guess a bit but definitely track. For general supplies I have the characters restock in cities, crossing off gold, adding more for maintenance, etc. In a couple campaig...

Sometimes. The best one I ever did was from a BECMI campaign that ran from level 1 into the 30s. We didn't do the Immortals rules, though I had all the stuff for it. A couple years ago I did one for our Swords & Wizardry Necropolis campaign. I may be running a group of OSR newbies through Dark T...

Re: DCC method to start PCs
Yeah, to me it's just a whole different mindset. I like the DCC funnels mostly for the character occupation and starting equipment that offers a minimalist backstory. One could easily just roll on that table and use it as your character background, maybe adding some kind of background skill unique t...
