Re: Illusionists & Starting Spells, Simple Solution
I bring forth two simple ideas for you input. Illusionists bring all sorts of discussions, so we made it simple. Yet to try it. 1) All illusionist spells are now wizard spells too, thus you can "specialize if you want", but its all just arcane magic. Thus ends the class illusionist. Horri...

A Knight doesn't have Combat Dominance as a class ability. The Fighter class has that ability.

Re: Distributed "Thief" talents
Not quite the same thing. In 2e, the 1e percentages were replaced by the distributed concept. I'm just pondering if/how to accomplish something similar in C&C. I guess I would have to treat the thief talents separately than "normal" class abilities. Currently BTB, a rogue would basica...

Re: Iron Flask saving throw
Could use the save from the older D&D material and convert; Seems to be between a DC 17 & 19 with 3.5 material hinting at a level 20 creation requirement. Thanks for the tip! At DC 19 (DMG 3.5) that translates to a ~9th level spell if DC = 10 + spell level of 9. At least a 17th level spell ...

Yes, lots can be done with the other classes depending on how one sees them vis-a-vis fighting capability.

Iron Flask saving throw
The Iron flask description states that the creature from another plane that gets sucked into the flask gets a Wisdom save but no level of save difficulty is listed. I guess it would be vs. the level of caster needed to create but no spell stands out for its creation.

Re: Classic BtH
So I'm definitely a Castles & Crusades guy these days. I love that I get much more streamlined mechanics but with an old school feel. That said, I'm pondering ways to get even more of the old school vibe. C&C uses ascending AC and roll-high, with Base-to-hit (BtH) bonuses as one levels up. ...

Re: Permanency & Con saving throw
Not a bad idea, but it may be a bit low. A permanent 9th level spell would only require it vs 9? Or would you limit it to spells < level 5? Maybe make it a flat 5 because Permanency is level 5 You lose the one Con point for a month anyway, which might make anyone think at least twice. Yes. It seeme...

Permanency & Con saving throw
In the permanency spell one has to make a con save to not lose a point on Con permanently. There is no guidance of how difficult to make the save. Currently I'm basing it on the level of spell or effect that is being made permanent. For instance Protection from Normal Arrows is a 2nd level spell so ...

with the short duration and uncertain animal type the cleric spell isn't one to pick if you need to travel. More of an aid in combat

Re: Wish list
As for your second point, I've never run into any issues using C&C with AD&D or even B/X modules on the fly. I actually prefer the old D&D modules to the official C&C ones for various reasons. Yes, I use the old mods as is with no real problems. And like you I prefer them to the new...

i think automatically dropping 10 creatures is getting into spell territory which means you would have to increase the xp level requirement of the class to get your steel canon towards the other glass canon levels. Since it already goes up to 6 opponents at high level I made this house rule; Combat...

Re: Rethinking C&C
I have used this system in the past, we called the spell points mana. It was fun for the magic users because they became juggernauts of destruction, but everyone else wound up being sidelined. I understand there is a perception that mages are weak early until suddenly they become over powered. I've...

Re: Rethinking C&C
Honestly, I don't get the argument that having different challenge bases for primes/non-primes. The players don't need to figure anything out. They roll a die, add some things, and then tell the CK if they are prime or not. It's the CK's job to know what the players need to roll to succeed, not the...
