Re: What gives??? The Boards are Alive again???

Every congratulations, wasgreg, and I have every expectation that it was C&C 's very robust old-school system (along with good CKing, no doubt :)) that has contributed to continued game commitment. Re the Airdhe passover: during the course of my RPGing life - over forty years now - the only publ...

Re: What gives??? The Boards are Alive again???

Total subject change (brief, hopefully), but the term "sheriff" is actually a composite of two words. The British equivalent of "county" (roughly) is "shire", and the person, traditionally, responsible for tax collection and law enforcement (I suppose, in a generally lo...

Re: What gives??? The Boards are Alive again???

I'd honestly be a touch concerned if conflicts didn't occur. If it was a case of this being an RPG echo chamber, with individuals simply stating the same points in slightly different terms, I don't think the game itself, let alone the boards or any supporting network, would have lasted past the firs...

Re: What gives??? The Boards are Alive again???

Been a C&C player and proponent for going on a decade and a half, and while I would contend that a certain decline in population and accompanying discussion is inevitable, I also contend that this game has an engine of such strength, depth and tension of drama that it'll keep going long after ho...

Re: The C&C rule(s) you dislike or ignore...

Much appreciated on the thoughts and considerations following my last post - and yes, I did mess up on confusing spell- vrs. caster-level; thank you for pointing this out, but after having held an internal balance on the matter, I'm going to stick with the halve-the-spell-level concept. While I do a...

Re: The C&C rule(s) you dislike or ignore...

Been a good while since I contributed here, but this subject definitely got the battery sparking. The biggest difficulty I've had with C&C , I've found, is with the saving throws, with adjustments for attribute, level and opponent status. E.g., a sixth level fighter is attacked with a sixth leve...

Re: Experience in general

Have been searching the post lists to find something that matched an inquiry I've got; this one was the closest to the target without going back to pre-2010 or something like that. So, a brief consideration, and looking to see if anyone's got some official word on this, or what the various house rul...

Color Out of Space

Okay; I'm putting this here because a) there ain't no RPGs I play that even come close to this other than C&C , and b) I gotta tell some one. My youngest brother, who is currently DMing/GMing our ongoing AD&D / Star Trek Adventures games let me know this was playing at a review theater (one ...

Re: Monsters & Treasure 5th edition

Tree can be found on Discord these days, but he's pretty much taken a hiatus from gaming for awhile. I think he was getting burned out gaming 5/6 days per week. Something that, these days, is a mere dream for me - getting together for Star Trek Adventures once a month is an event; a joyous one, yes...

Coming in considerably after the announcement date, but wanted some clarification: I've noted that Crusader Journal #27 is available on https://www.ecwid.com/store/tlgstoremobile/Crusader-Journal-27-D-p45182354. However, this is noted as the PDF version - as a considerable fan of the magazine, I was...

Nothing to do with the subject at hand - just chose this thread 'cause it's the first one I could see - but just wanted to note down: I picked up Monsters & Treasure fifth printing tonight; yes, it was definitely a few bucks out of pocket, but the results are well, well worth it. The monsters ar...

Re: Hold Undead Spell

As a quick note, I like the concept; a cleric of appropriate level should, I think, be able to inflict a hold/paralysis spell on undead much as a ghoul/ghast is able to do so when attacking a PC/NPC target. While turning results in an immediate outcome - the undead get the heck out of there as fast ...

Re: Wounds

While I can certainly appreciate the thought and detail that goes into constructing this sort of thing, such an effect is, for me, overriding the decrees of the CK in such a situation. I think it'd be pretty much up to the CK's power of description to indicate such afflictions, and such could be ins...

spudeus: Nothing to do with new books whatsoever, but just to note - I do like that shot you included very much. Re: Intelligent magic swords - where are the guidelines?

Rigon, thank you! I knew I'd seen the damn thing at some point, but had totally blanked out on where it was; had been making the (obviously) incorrect association that what's in the DMG would be replicated in the CKG . So, once again life can move on and (as stated in Macbeth ) "the time is fre...

Intelligent magic swords - where are the guidelines?

The thread title pretty much lays it out; I've checked the Players Handbook and the CKG and can't seem to find anything on this. Although I think it'd be pretty reasonable to state that, whatever the C&C rules on this might be, they're within a stone's throw of the first-edition DMG , I'd still ...

Assassin cost chart

Just a quick question: I remember, at some point, seeing a chart for assassination costs; as I recollect, it was based on assassin level crossed with target level. Am I indicating something that actually exists, and if so, where? I think it was a C&C -based concept, but it could've been AD&D...

Re: XP for traps

I have the CKG - haven't checked yet, but just as a pure concept question: Yeah, I'd say handing out xp for successful find/disarm traps rolls, pretty much whatever the situation, demands its own reward. Rogues get little enough chance for meaningful, direct involvement in a game situations, especia...

Not adding anything of significance - I think Go0gleplex's answer pretty much nailed it shut, and well done on that - but with regard to the topic itself...man, this is one of those things that puts RPGs - and especially fantasy-based ones, in this situation - in a separate category of their own. Really hoping the FLGS can get hold of this thing reasonably (i.e., before the end of the calendar year) soon, and can use it to fill out the list of C&C monsters (and that term is inclusive of pretty much all non-human/demi-human types, including all good and/or neutral aligned species). With h...

every revision fixes errors and inserts new ones. xp for all classes doubles most levels (roughly) then at the end becomes linear.. why I do not know. Agreed - the only rationale I can work up is that the levels in question represent the "name" levels in AD&D ; therefore, a serious &q...
