They added a bunch of illusionist spells around the 4th or 5th printing of the PHB.

That was pretty cool. Some of the close-ups were uncomfortably close to the point it became uncomfortable. I found myself pulling back from my monitor hoping to get a better view.

Re: On dungeon mapping

I haven't been able to play much face to face over the last few years, but I have definitely drifted away from detailed mapping like I grew up with in the 1E days. I have always found mapping to be a pain in the ass and the antithesis of fun. As noted by someone above, I would rather spend my limite...

Re: Mass Combat?

I myself had a blast when I set up my dining room table and went full out with hundreds of mini, props, castles, dragon and pretty much everything I could find to set up a giant mass combat. It was me against myself and it was a blast. Took a week or so to resolve most combats. Not sure if I actual...

Re: Playing or Designing?

That is a tough question. I theoretically would enjoy playing the best, but I find it isn't as stimulating as GMing. I get bored quickly when the spotlight is on someone else. I really enjoy the immersion of GMing -- you're always "on." But GMing is also stressful and lacks the pure fun of...

Re: Fire in the Hole

I've sold 7 copies, so I'm kind of a big deal now. ;-) I'm thrilled people have been enjoying it. I've run it twice and both parties failed to exercise proper caution at the beginning, leading to a massive encounter right off the bat. I enjoyed designing it, running it, and publishing it, but readin...

Re: Monsters that are stronger (or weaker) than you remember

The 7 HD dwarves in the 1E were a scanning error. The computer mistook "1" for "7". I believe there were other similar scanning errors in the reprints.

Fire in the Hole

I released my first C&C module on DriveThruRPG this week. Priced at $1.00, I should be able to retire any day now. The entire module is visible in the free preview, so you can check it out before deciding whether it's worth your copper pieces. Please check it out!

Re: What Video Game(s) are you playing

I've been playing the original Might & Magic over the last few months. I had forgotten what a difficult grind it is. I remember that one, and being pleased when I finished it. Then I remember getting M&M2 and doing the towns a but then I step outside and got TPK, I thought wtf this is game ...

Re: The C&C rule(s) you dislike or ignore...

For group initiative, we roll and, when it is the PCs' turn, I pick a player to go first and then either go clockwise or counter-clockwise. I don't always reroll initiative each round. I may go back and forth for 2 or 3 cycles before rerolling. Sometimes we reroll every round.

Re: How many players do you like to have in your gaming group?

It depends on the game. If I'm running C&C, I would prefer 5-6 players. If I'm running Dungeon World, 3-4 player is ideal.

Black and white. Gideon Thorne's (i.e., Peter Bradley's) artwork looks better in B&W.

My own homebrew setting. I have stolen bits and pieces from Airdhe, but my campaigns generally revolve around the lands surrounding the Free City of Rotter.

Re: The C&C rule(s) you dislike or ignore...

Things I threw overboard: 1. Alignment. My house rules say your PC can't be evil and must be conceived to work well in a party environment (i.e., no obnoxious chaotics). 2. Encumbrance (not worth the hassle). 3. Barbarians (they suck and are better served as a role play option for other classes). 4....

Re: New to C&C, I have some Magic Item and Monster questions

Monsters in C&C don't really have an intelligence stat like PCs, although there is a chart on page 11 of the 5th printing M&T that allows you to convert the intelligence descriptor in the monster stat blocks to an attribute value if you wish. Not all of the monsters' intelligence descriptors...

Re: Main Gauche supplement for Zweihänder, a read-through

The next Chapter is the second-longest in the book, and probably the longest set of NPC creation rules I've seen in any game. Does that pique your interest? Because it damn sure does mine. That's a deal breaker for me. I'm very much a rules lite kind of guy these days. NPCs in C&C modules are t...

Re: Magic Dragons

The low tech approach is to simply give the dragon whatever spells/magical powers you think it should have. You're in charge, not the text of M&T. It is unnecessary to rely on mechanical systems from AA. Just do what you want directly.

Re: Finesse weapons

I would not allow a dex bonus to hit and then add a strength bonus to damage. The whole point of using Dex is that the PC is hitting through finesse, not brute strength. How would the PC inflict extra damage when they aren't using their muscle to hit?
