Re: Looking to start a game of C&C ~ players needed

I am new to the game (just discovered it) but I would be interested. You are welcome to play. Do you have access to the Castles & Crusades Players Handbook? It's available as a free PDF here: https://www.trolllord.com/tlgstore/#!/Players-Handbook-7th-Printing-Digital/p/89198194 If you have any ...

Looking to start a game of C&C ~ players needed

I'm looking to run a C&C campaign online via Roll20 with voice chat only. I can run it on any day of the week except Sundays. Time is anytime between 8-12ish pm eastern (time is negotiable). Rules are the C&C PHB. If you're interested let me know, post a character or pm me. I'm hoping to get...

Re: What gaming stuff are you reading?

Game materials I've been reading lately: Advanced Fighting Fantasy (Deluxe Edition) A Curious Tome of Forgotten Lore (pretty much an OSRIC/AD&D sourcebook) Kingdoms of Kalamar (a setting sourcebook, came out for 3e but it's systemless) Fantastic Heroes & WItchery (OSR game, a gem imo) Codex ...

The edition wars ended long ago and I'm glad they are dead and (partially) buried.

I didn't know that C-tard was a thing. Kinda lame

This is why all C&C CKs should read the original DM advice from Gygax. NEVER randomly introduce Artifacts as treasure.
Yes, sure, but don't look at the random magic tables where one can get one by dice result.
You mean like the one in the ye olde Monsters & Treasure? :D

You could just use the "average XP per monster" document(s) and adjust if above, or below. That removes most of the annoying calculation as it leaves only the" +X per HP."
Interesting, this would be a good addition to Monsters & Treasure for each of the monsters listed.

S1 Lure of Delusion.

I'm not sure but I think this module was originally run as a convention game.

I usually don't allow a natural 20 as a sure chance of success unless it's a to hit roll.

The section on the planes in the Codex of Aihrde was interesting and well-written. If they put out a book extrapolating on that section I'd be interested.

I think there may have been a flip book of the PHB and AB at one time, I'm not sure about that though.

Re: Screw it...

I respect anyone's vision, but sometimes reading Stephen's flavor text for Airdhe (and this is just coming from reading Tome of the Unclean & Monsters & Treasures of Airdhe) is like reading a combination of The Silmarillion and the rantings of the Rick Moranis character from Ghostbusters. N...

Re: The ranger's innate class penalties...

I'm talking about the ranger being able to move silently in chain, and am interested in hearing differing opinions about it. Thanks for sharing yours. If anything, rather than stripping away the rogue's penalties, perhaps we should add some to the ranger's move silently check if he wears armor heav...

Re: The ranger's innate class penalties...

There are also bracers or defense, cloaks and rings of protection, etc. that can give a rogue better AC without having to wear heavier armor. Logically, metal armor isn't as quiet as leather. I fail to see the justification for having no penalty for wearing armor that will make more sound when movin...

Re: The ranger's innate class penalties...

That's the thing: many are quick to come up with reasons why a rogue can't possibly move silently in any armour better than leather, but at the same time they acknowledge that the ranger can do that very thing without issue. The ranger is only allowed to move silently in wilderness areas. The rogue...

Re: Criticals & Fumbles

A natural 20 on the to hit roll gives you maximum damage, no need to roll damage.

A natural 1 means you lose your next turn. You aren't helpless but cannot take any action the next round.

Re: The ranger's innate class penalties...

I think in all these cases, they're trying to push you towards the archetype or classic trope. Of course, it's a class-based game and that's what the classes have always been. There's an implied "world" to the game that is inherent in the rules, it goes all the way back to the original ga...

Re: The ranger's innate class penalties...

I'm pretty sure barbarians have the same issue. Depends on the printing of the PHB you're using. 1st-3rd printings, they have no restrictions to any of their abilities based on armor worn. 4th printing and onward, there is a restriction to climbing or swimming ("deerstalker") if the barba...

Re: The ranger's innate class penalties...

Is the ranger the only class that has innate penalties built into it? Ie. The ranger has an armour allowed list, but if he wears those armours, he can't perform his class skills: conceal, move silently, climb, etc.(the rogue cant perform the same skills in any armour over leather). A ranger can wea...

How is this version of Blackmoor? What system is it written for, if any? I liked the DA module series, again because I thought the lore was pretty cool. Only "Temple of the Frog" was really good as an adventure. This was put out by Zeitgeist and then in partnership with Goodman Games. It'...

I really wanted to like the CKG when it was finally released after years of waiting for it. I wish I could say that I found it useful but honestly I never had much use for it and the tables were kind of messed up with the numbers (bad editing). As a curiosity it was fun to read in part, but overall...

I use my own campaign setting of Krysonia, which has been cobbled together since the late 1980s. Last fall I hired Glynn Seal from Monkeyblood Design to make nicer versions of my old hand-drawn maps, which you can see here: https://monkeyblooddesign.co.uk/2020/10/25/krysonia-leng-commission/ As you...

Re: New Group (pronounced "OLD") via Internet.. start up advice???

I'd vote for Zoom. Far less hassle than all those crappy VTT things. You can just share screen for dice rolls and you can have a gallery where you see everyone. But I'm low-tech. And to be honest, I haven't actually played on a VTT; just seen some of the videos on youtube, which make them seem pret...

I never tried Haunted Highlands, I've heard good things about it, that it's very swords & sorcery but I missed the books when they were in print. Also, Hallowed Oracle but I know very little about it.

The way I see it is, the half-elf is only getting two primes, so you may as well give them the +2 to those charisma saves.
