I really don't have a superstition when it comes to dice, I usually just pick up some out of the box and roll them. (If my rolls are bad I may switch for other dice after a while, but thats about it.)

I don't know about btb, but I liked the 3E way of handling it, -4 to hit, when shooting into melee, if you miss you miss. No chance of hitting an ally or another target, fast and simple.

Unless the campaign is very trap heavy, I think most groups can survive without a rogue. (IMC only clerics or druids seem to be considered a must have class)
