<t>The speech is about 50% useful campaign information and 50% boasting that he is a tough gamemaster . <br/> <br/> I seriously doubt he had any goth types at the table when he gave that speech (unless he knew them very well). Hell, if I used that kind of talk with my players I would lose about half...

<t>The cleric isn't going to get any better at tracking, because he is too busy learning his profession, so he won't get to add his level to the roll. And like DD said, the ranger can gain a lot more information from a successful track check. <br/> <br/> Every character class does the abilities of t...

<t>My only frustration is that life interferes with keeping roleplaying groups together. <br/> <br/> And that I have more games than I could ever play, and ten times more miniatures than I could ever paint.<br/> <br/> And I'm sick the term "old school" mostly because I'm old and some dorky tween sai...

<t>Nice blog article there Heruka <br/> I wouldn't take anything written in the class descriptions as a reason to limit its ability to be an adventurer.<br/> <br/> I could see that description being used to set up some early adventures.<br/> <br/> Maybe the ranger character is assigned as a guide th...

I prefer players to start with a small background, which can be expanded upon during the game. When playing I usually just have a brief rather simple background. The game and setting influence how much background is needed. A simple dungeon crawl setting does require any background. A complex politi...

<t>I give the PC's max hit point (+ con bonus) at 1st level. They have to roll after that. It does give them a bit of an edge at 1st level against low level encounters, but cuts down characters dying due to a bad die roll a little bit.<br/> <br/> Maxing out the monster hit dice will make them toughe...

I really only use the old 1st edition dmg for fluff stuff, dungeon dressing, random dungeons, random wilderness, henchmen and hireling that sort stuff. Don't really need it all actually. I've stoled a few spells form 3rd edition but thats about it. DangerDwarf wrote: For your brand new gamer looking...
