When I read that speech I was reminded of a Traveller campaign I encontered in college. The guy had an eloborate campaign full of epics scenes, battles and political intrigue. It was very creative but the players were merely spectators.

I'm glad I order one when I did. To save wear on my copy I've begin to copy the maps by hand into a graph paper notebook. I doing this to facilitate expanding the dungeons downward as well.

I prefer players to start with a small background, which can be expanded upon during the game. When playing I usually just have a brief rather simple background. I like the non casting versions better as well, except maybe for the bard.

The bard class seems to be kinda weak ( but they do level up pretty quick).

Options are good though.

Yeah a Charisma check for monster won't work so good for them, being that monsters are notrious for having bad charisma I guess. I've been thinking about using a BECMI like system using 2d10, instead of 2d6. 2 = already running, 20 = will never will run.

AD&D morale rules were for henchmen, hirelings, npc opponents and monsters. Base morale for monsters was 50%+5% per hit die over one.

FWIW I use the Mentzer set rules, at least until the CKG is released.
