There may have been a Dragon magazine article that did something like this...I'll see if I can dig it up. I think I remember XP investment being a factor.

I do not recall where, exactly, I believe the DMG (1e) that Gygax wrote a 1-2 paragraph explanation of the HP being an abstraction. It included health, luck, stamina and so-forth. The swashbuckler running around on deck besting every man on board with his trusty cutlass, then suddenly, one lucky mu...

Also: why oh why don't the trolls offer these in alternative formats to pdf so we can read them on our portable devices (like kindle)? Thats why I go with Tablets, they can read PDF's. Plus do a whole lot more. I have a tablet that reads pdfs but it is a little bulky for travel and sometimes, like ...

I'm working on it. I might have to next year. I want to do the 50th anniversary of Gen Con (2017, if my calculations are correct) but I might stick to small stuff after that. But if I can start budgeting those before then, all the better!Buttmonkey wrote:You guys need to come to Gary Con.

Re: Who allows illusionist healing?
I've read the CKG stuff about the illusionist, however, as a psychologist, I really like the idea of a magic user who "tricks" you into thinking you're on fire. It is a great way to change up the old trope of what's your source of magic: arcane, divine, or psychic? Another interesting vie...

Hey folks! I'm going to GenCon this year. Still not sure if I will run something or not (official or otherwise). It will also be my honeymoon so I'll have to spend quality time with the wife. ;) PS -- Honeymoon at GenCon was *her* idea. M Nice! My wife's going this year, too (a first for her)!

Nice, Rigon. I want the BoF, but I don't want it in digital. But I guess at these prices, it's hard to pass up. Yeah, I was around $15 for the both of them. I have the M&ToA in softback, but wanted it in digital, but not for the priceit normally was, and I've been on the fence with the BoF, but...

Not really. It's currently tied with the 4th printing in the poll. Yep, it's nice to see the good ol' 4th printing getting some love. Feel kind of bad for the 5th printing, though. :( I love that 4th print book. Plus, having the same trade dress in the whole set (PHB, M&T, CM, CKG, OG&M, M&...

Re: Who allows illusionist healing?
Illusionist healing, you betcha I allow it in my games by the book, and play an illusionist character in another game that does it. Instead of getting in the debate of why it works, I simply added that the far flung energies from the Planes of Shadow are channeled into the character (in addition to...

Re: Who allows illusionist healing?
Not to toot my own horn, but I really like the concept of the temporary hit point for illusionist healing - they're a ruse to make the recipient feel better, but they're just that - a ruse. They'll go away, and for a while the illusion works to make the target feel better. But in the end, he's just...

I believe so. Even if they're not "officially" a standard, basic one could be. If you want something fancier, however, then that might mean a special trip somewhere such things could be procured.mostrojoe wrote:And about the scabbards? Are they included in the weapon price?

Re: Who allows illusionist healing?
"Temporary" hit points is far from a d20 concept. AD&D had numerous ways, ranging from spells like aid to magic potions, notably potion of super-heroism . Sure. I guess I should have said "popularized by d20," though. Other than the two heroism potions and aid spell, I don't...

Just wondering who is permitting this in their games... Not I said the fly... I've replaced all the healing spells with alternate spells. I've read and heard the Trolls logic, and while I understand and respect it, I don't agree with it. To me, restorative powers should be kept in the hands of cler...

For me it is a tough choice between 4th and 6th. I really like the thick black and white pages of the 4th, but the luxurious color and glossy feel of the 6th calls to me. So I voted 6th, but really it is like 50/50 for those two. I agree. I love the new printing, don't get me wrong. I think it's a ...

Re: Creating Scrolls and Brewing Potions
So this is where it gets funky. According the the M&T a 1st level potion would cost 200gp (200gp per spell level) and a lab to work in. So a second level spell in the form of a potion should be 400gp (2x200gp). But the cost for said potion on market, if there were one, is 400gp . The maker does...
