Re: How do you sell C&C?
Wish I knew. I've never been able to sell my current group on C&C! Too many min-maxers, I guess...
Maybe focus on the speed and simplicity, with that old school feel. I do think playing C&C sells itself, but it's getting them to take that first step.

I would love to see some extraplanar content for C&C. Thanks to the original MotP, I associate planar adventures with that old school feel.

Re: Campaign Homework: Artifacts
I’ve only used two artifacts in my gaming years. One was a homemade one, the Dragonsword. The other was the Jacinth of Inestimable Beauty. The Dragonsword had a bunch of powers, but each had a corresponding danger. I had PCs trying to kill each over it, even though no one really used its powers, for...

Have to say, I’m super excited for Necromancer Games’ Kickstarted book of Monsters to come out. Not in the least because I know that a bunch of my players have the Monster Manual, and I like to keep them guessing.

Re: Post Apocalyptic Fantasy
I read the section in Mutant Future on mixing it with Labyrinth Lord and have been wanting to run that every since. For post-apocalyptic fantasy, I’d probably recommend Hiero’s Journey by Sterling Lanier most (not the least because of its appearance in Appendix N and its clear influence on Gamma Wor...

Re: Chill RPG 3rd Edition KS
I go back and forth on Chill vs. CoC. Sometimes I think being tied to an existing intellectual property ends up hamstringing GMs into having to worry about matching the books/movies/comics rather than worrying about running a good adventure. Other times I think that the Lovecraft mythos is too good ...

Re: Keeping a group of 8 moving
This is what I do as well. Also, for individual effects and whatnot, I find little post-it notes to be very handy in keeping things sorted. Abandon individual initiative. Do group initiative for the monsters and party. On the party's turn, start with someone and then go clockwise or counter-clockwis...

I keep meaning to give those books a try, how are they so far? I’m currently reading Kim Newman’s Anno Dracula: Johnny Alucard. So far we have Francis Ford Coppola making Dracula in the 70s with the cast, crew, and nightmarish experience of Apocalypse Now. And that includes a mumbling overweight Mar...

You totally should. I feel like Birthright, along with Spelljammer, Dark Sun, Ravenloft, and Planescape really opened up new vistas of play at the time.

Re: Boss Sauce
http://johnmillsdistributing.com/Products/INSTITIONAL/BossSauceHot.jpg I’d make it a bit more expensive. Re: D&D 5th Edition Discussion
Yep, I can also see this happening. The rules expansions have always been where the past editions of D&D have broken down, where some of the most broken rules have shown up (arguably even going back to 1e). That's why I’m starting my 5e campaign with the rule that the only character content allo...

Currently been favoring the homebrew for years. Although if you were to look at my history, Forgotten Realms would probably place highest, since I gamed there from D&D 1e to 3e. To my shame, I only got around to running Greyhawk last year.

I'll cosign on Village of Hommlet. Having re-run it last year, I think it's held up quite well. And if they like it, it can always flow right into the Temple of Elemental Evil.

So a Lawful Smart paladin instead of Lawful Stupid? Way to use teamwork to rescue the situation, too. I'll admit, when I'm running a game, I love to see the adventurers work together to outmaneuver me. No, I am a smart Paladin, I only pushed the evil priest off. The Half Orc, though, did fall and ta...

Re: Tomb of Horrors for C&C?
THIS. If you want to sell them on C&C, a module (awesome as it is) with an at least 90% kill rate probably isn’t the best, unless they know what they’re getting into. That being said, I think it’d be pretty easy to convert to C&C. In many ways, the rules of Tomb of Horrors are secondary to u...

Bummer, thread, no doubt. Shame that so many have had to deal with such problem players. I had a player a long time ago that was ultra-competitive against the rest of the group, to the point of browbeating them and trying to duel them in-game. We just stopped gaming with him and fun was allowed to c...

I dig the idea of using old Gamma World mutations instead. Maybe the Mutant Future versions would be easy to convert to C&C… For my part, I’ve yet to see psionics done well in the various editions of D&D. Some of the most broken rules have shown up there and I’m honestly considering banning ...

After running 4e for years (while pining away for C&C, which I could never sell the group on), this very much. Though there are still parts of 4e in the game (fortunately minimal), 5e looks like it’s going to feel like freedom. Sadly, I don’t think D&D is going to ever get away from the conc...

The only Gazetteer I happen to have is the Dwarves of Rockhome, naturally. An awesome read, and it makes me wish I had picked up the Gazetteers back in the day, considering how much most of them sell for now.

Re: Low level "magic items" with character but little power
Some awesome ideas here. I think that most magic items should have some flavor text and character to them. Even a simple shield +1 is made that much cooler when you say it's made from a single dragon scale. Add a once per day ability and a story about it and now it feels like a real piece of magic o...

C&C in My Dreams
So I had a dream that Litzen and I were running around the Troll Lord Games warehouse, looking for the Prophecy of Dragons folio. Of course, the warehouse was the size of a Lowe’s. And we were rushed for time because we had to catch a Greyhound bus at a certain time.
Heh.
