I like the system exactly as it is, although I have considered porting over the experience system from Alternity, since I adore that mechanic. However, it would need to be altered since not all classes in C&C have the same experience targets, which might well rob it of its usefulness.

The best way to get newcomers into C&C rather than another game is simply to offer it to them. Parents, especially, will be interested in a a game that costs only a fraction of D&D's startup price.

This is all very good stuff. The shield often gets misrepresented or misused, possibly because of the way it disappeared in Europe after the 17th century after a brief rebirth in the 16th.
