Re: Ck secrets...

If I make notes, which I don't usually, it'll be something like "Name of merchant, store, speaks like Rocky Balboa and has a mechanical arm." In general, I keep towns and such small so I can remember the details. I don't want to run a town of several millions... especially when the group i...

Re: Did I do wrong to weaken the encounter?

Yes, they should have been clobbered. There are ways to identify poison. They could have checked. Hell, there's a 0-level spell as I remember, that does exactly that and a ranger can try, too. If they don't have a ranger or druid... then there are still methods. Perhaps allow a gnome to smell someth...

Re: How about running away/chasing?

I use a slightly different method as I do not think the SIEGE Engine is a good fit for pursuit, as it is not for some other things as well. Each party involved draws a card from a standard poker deck, Jokers removed. If the colors do not match, no change. Whoever is ahead stays there. If the suits m...

Thought of another one -- swimming pools. I mean, I just had to fish two chipmunks out because they got themselves drowned.

Re: Tricky Question: Unusual but workable ways to break a Ch

Along those lines, as the charm is not a domination but a strengthening of like, witnessing an event that puts actual, truly loved (or befriended) things/people in danger can also give reason to resist the spell again. Examples would be to see a close friend, relative, lover, or child in danger but ...

Only been to St Louis once, when my grandfather died, but maybe if I'm ever around that way I can look. Unless they deal online or you're willing to do shopping for me... ;) But, cool. I wish I had more game stores around, as is, I have to travel at leas 2 hours to get to anything. Not bad but does ...

Re: Tricky Question: Unusual but workable ways to break a Ch

Yes, dispel magic works as the ability to charm is a spell-like power, meaning all rules that apply to spells apply to it, save that the ability does not require components and can be cast more than once (up to whatever limit is provided.) The difference is that a medusa does not petrify as per a sp...

The fact that the 1e book is available, and the Career Compendium for 2e, makes this very tempting... but, I hate pdfs so much.

I was able to pick up several console games from my "to buy" list and I am slowly going through them as virtually all of them were complete, with box and manual, so that made me happy... can replace the ones that I had partials for, mostly NES cartridges.

Re: Tricky Question: Unusual but workable ways to break a Ch

Dispel magic , naturally. However, you could have the lamia's charm only apply while within listening distance, similar to a siren or harpy. The effect may remain, which could cause confusion to the character when they get out of range (and an obvious clue) but cannot be acted upon unless the lamia...

Re: The French Terror – Social Unrest in a game world ?

Every period, every culture, has social unrest. How dominant it is, how prevalent and easily identified is subject to debate, of course. For example, even the presence of a single conspiracy theory gives an impetus for trust to be questioned and therefore, some sort of unrest... this can be magnifie...

Re: Proficiencies/Differentiation

I find, for myself and those I game with, that systems which do not have a codified "skill system" allow us to more distinctly identify the character's abilities as they come up through play rather than being picked from a shopping list. For example, my wife once "discovered" tha...

Re: They said I should play a different game, so I did!

Move and attack, at least for full movement, is only possible with a charge or spell effect -- like a jump spell and there are rules that cover that. Full move and casting... not so much. If I want to allow it, I either make the spell take longer to cast (therefore making it easier to disrupt) or ha...

Re: Saving Throws - a quick reference

Officially, C&C does not have auto-success or failure (assuming, of course, a roll is needed -- in theory if you're too high a level, a roll may not be required unless a "degree of success" is wanted by the Castle Keeper for some reason.) But, that does not mean many people do not incl...

That may not be "weak." Certainly some of it is indeed powerful, especially that 6d4 whip. Depends a great deal on "abilities common to all demons" and "spell-like abilities." For example, immunity to all forms of energy attacks or half to most plus the power to gate, t...

Re: Need suggestions for unique magic items

Another few ideas... A sleeping bag that doubles the amount of time rested within it, effectively meaning one need only 4 hours sleep to gain the benefits of 8. This may or may not help spellcasters. Tent holding up to 6 man-sized persons which makes it harder to scry or teleport (in both directions...

I usually go with some kind of check for casting success and then a burn on failure, similar in concept to Shadowrun's mana system where an attribute governs the maximum effect level, in theory.

I can only look at the limited tool set available to me for the Keeper's Advice section. Maybe Finarvyn (Marv?) can do it? I dunno.
