Heh,

I just realized what this "Number of successes" mechanic reminded me of.

It's WW's World of Darkness' extended test system.

Sorry WOTC, that ain't new.

<t>I use an exploding damage die system similar to WFRP. Basically, if you roll max damage, you roll your to-hit again to confirm, then if you get a second success, re-roll damage and add to first roll. Keep re-rolling damage and adding until you don't get max (only re-roll the to-hit once). Things ...

I think the turn mechanic is fine. (Sorry boring but true )

EDIT: to clarify, I meant the C&C mechanic. I dislike the Pathfinder one described above for much the same reasons serleran describes below.

<t>Actually I went the route that most "clerics" aren't the PC class, they are lay brethern (and sisters) who tend to oversee local temples and the like, but aren't warriors and cast no spells (except possibly 0-level). They can turn undead as a 1st level cleric. The idea is that every time you ride...

Despite the fact that I am a Moldvay die-hard, I do dearly love my RC. It's a pleasure just to flip though. And ahving the pdf on my machine at work means quick & easy reference.
Some day I may run a RC game, it would be cool to use some of that higher-level stuff like Warmachine.

Another place to find simple hireling info is B2: Keep on the Borderlands. If you want to hire specialists (sages, alchemists, etc.), check the Expert D&D book (Cook or Mentzer).
