Re: Haunted Highlands threads on the TLG boards
Interesting. I have now discovered that in moving to the new boards, none of the links in my OP work any more. (And going back to my source file in Word, the links appear to go to the wrong places. Strange.)

Not to worry, Casey. I'm going to update the "everything HH" thread and bump it back to the top again!Bowbe wrote:Wow, see what happens when HH doesn't have its own thread?
EDIT: Just realized that I need to re-create all of my links. All of the threads got renumbered in the move. Argh.

Re: The Harbinger Variant -- Demoing C&C
Hoping that Harvinger arrives soon (Steve said it would be with my order, which is currently slowed due to the CKG) because a new game store opened up about 15 minutes from my house and I'm hoping to run a demo. (They don't stock C&C yet, but they will! They just don't know it yet.

Awesome! I can't wait until the hardbacks ship. (I probably should have ordered a perfect bound one also, just to get it faster. Oh, well.)

Palladium and Rolemaster both give me fits. I also really wanted to like Savage Worlds but every time I read the rulebook I want to put it down and play something else.

Agreed. Even though Peter Jackson tweaked a few things that annoy the Tolkien purists, I think that overall he did a fantastic job with LOTR. I'm hoping that we get similar quality for the Hobbit.

I usually don't bother with encumbrance unless players start to get excessive with it.

Re: Getting back into C&C
I have some C&C books from when I first got into the game a while back and I'm looking to get back into it now. I'm wondering if there is a new version/printing of the player's guide and monsters & treasure please? I'm glad that you're getting back into the game. Of course the new printings...

There is a similar thread on therpgsite.

I see the biggest problem in that a few people yell loudly against a product and it tends to sway many of the masses. I'd hate for C&C to get a bad reputation over this.

Re: 4E Essentials Monster Vault...
I have a copy of this and I agree that it's a pretty neat product. 1. There are lots of monster tokens. (Sadly, I'm trying to find a way to move away from the battle board a little, but if I go back I'll have lots of 'em.) 2. I was kind of hoping that they would simplify the monsters a bit more (thi...

Re: Neil Gaimon on Copywrite Piracy & The Web
I know that I like to have both printed and electronic copies of books and RPGs, but it does annoy me to pay twice. On the other hand, there are some books like Lord of the Rings and Chronicles of Amber which I own multiple copies in paper. (I keep a backup copy at my parents' house and another back...

I think I've covered all you need. If at this point you still feel like it can't be done with StarSIEGE, then you're simply not a 'Toolkit' RPG type of person (and I don't say that as a bad thing, but it would be a fact) Thanks for the extensive info on this! I'm definitely a "Toolkit" ki...

No, you're right. My brain said "skill based" and my fingers typed "class based." My entire point had been that most SciFi games are skill based and that I thought a class-based "C&C in Space" would be interesting, and that I had wondered why it was decided t...

Also remember that there were two versions of 7th sea: (1) the original "roll and keep" 7th Sea (my favorite) (2) Swashbuckling Adventures , which was the d20 variant. Since SWd20 and C&C have some common roots, conversion should be somewhat painless. The SA version has a few classes t...

I've seen people raise this as a complaint in the past (not to say that you, specifically, are complaining, finarvyn), as though making it a clone of C&C would have somehow made it a better science fiction RPG. As you said, I'm not complaining. I've looked at the sytem (although I'll confess th...

Re: Fictional characters' C&C stats
When I stat out fictional characters, I tend to follow a few key guidelines: 1. Level In my game, level 4 is a Hero and level 8 is a Super Hero. Level 10-12 or so is the maximum allowed by an NPC. My general guideline is that a lone hero (Conan) is probably closer to level 8, but a group of heroes (...

StarSIEGE design philosophy question
This is a question aimed generally at cheeplives, but anyone else "in the know" might shed some light on this as well. When I first heard about StarSIEGE I thought it would basically be "C&C in Space." Certainly it shares some common elements (such as the SIEGE mechanic), but...

You know, people complain over and over about Primes versus non Primes, and after 5 years, and many games, all I see is that they work as intended. My plan was to duplicate the essentials of the LBB spell list in WB. I compressed a few (slow and haste became one spell, for example because I didn't see much point in two) to keep things a little different. Some liked the changes, others hated them.
