Re: Oh for the love of the game!
1. There are many players and few GMs, so the GM gets to pick the rules set. I say go with one you like. If the adventure is fun the players will have fun. If they only will only play if they get to play their rules set, you're better off without them. 2. I don't think that there is a lot of 3E-hate...

Re: 3 LBB spell list
Most of the OD&D spells are similar to those in C&C and/or the SRD so I assume it's not a problem to post this. Here is the Magic-user list. 1st Level Charm Person, Detect Magic, Hold Portal Light, Protection/Evil Read Languages, Read Magic, Sleep 2nd Level Continual Light, Detect Evil, Dete...

Re: The CKG is really too good.
Come on folks! I can't be the only one who bought the Digest CKG! I really wanted to, but was afraid that the font size was too small. I struggle a little with all of the printings after the 1st because the font size got smaller, and I thought that shrinking it down to about half of the original si...

Re: The first split?
Thing is. This would not be the first split, as it were. There are folks who stick with our first white box collectors set, and don't play with the hard back books. They like the short list of classes. Oh, heck, I fragmented from the "mainstream" C&C community when the 1st printing PH...

Re: Quick Purchase Help
I'm fairly tempted to get some of the Haunted Highland stuff, but would rather wait if it's all going to get reprinted in a box set. If you're buying PDFs it doesn't matter so much if it's singles or a boxed set. I love the Haunted Highlands setting (especially the first 3-4 modules) and suggest yo...

Re: Characters beyond 10th
I've played C&C for years without the CKG and contend that it is totally optional. My thought is that you allow levels to keep advancing as per the PH and you'll be fine. Every level allows a small hit point gain, allows the possibiltity of a to-hit gain, etc. Unlike some games (such as 4E D&...

Correct! i did announce some of my plans for WB on my website today: http://bravehalfling.com/?p=301 Interesting, and the first I've heard of it. All the writing I did for the WB was contract-free and it certainly would appear from the announcement that Matt owns the rights to whatever I wrote. (At...

Re: Hardback CK Screen
I'd love a hardback screen! One thing for me, however, is font size. I'd rather have slightly less information if it could be printed at a decent size font. The whole point of a GM screen is quick access during play, and some of us visually impared gamers find that reading tiny type size is painful ...

Does sound pretty sweet. I guess I'll have to get the newest PH printing ASAP. (Hopefully with my next trip to the game store I can buy PH, CKG, M&T all in olive green hardbacks. If not, I'll be looking at the TLG store....)

Re: Saving throws for Class-and-a-half characters
I must be senile, but the concept of a "class and a half" character puzzles me. What is it, and where do you find rules for it?
(It sounds like a person can earn a half-class, but maybe that's too obvious to be correct?)

Re: C&C Trial at my game table
What I'd be curious to know, though, is if any of these players have DMed in the past. I'm thinking if some of the suggestions being made don't help, it's time for, "If you guys want to stick with Pathfinder, okay, but I'm tired of running it. Someone else needs to GM." My experience is t...

I once ran a character named "Dex Check" in a Star Wars game.
My daughter suggested a character named "Bo Anderos" for one campaign.

What I find interesting is that A&8 is "built" on the same basic rules as HackMaster, and HM was "built" on the same basic rules as AD&D. In effect, there is a living AD&D rules set out there. I still enjoy my Boot Hill (simple, miniatures rules) and Go Fer Yer Gun (h...

Re: Is E6 in C&C possible?
I think that something similar to E6 could work well for C&C. SimonW did something like this in his Go Fer Yer Gun C&C western game, although he capped 'em at 4th level. 1) As per E6, cap HD and similar progression at 6th level. 2) I've seen some threads on Feats in C&C, so clearly some ...

I also want a slipcase. I don't care much about leather; I'd rather have all three of 'em (PH, M&T, CKG) as olive green hardbacks in a nice box.

Re: When Should Items Have to Make Saving Throws?
I've never used formal item saving throw rules. I guess it seems to me like common sense works for most non-magical items (plus I like the "break on a natural 1" idea) and most magic items won't break under normal conditions.

Plus I met the CK with the 20 volumes of house rules. You read my comic! And remembered it! :o I think it gets funnier once (1) we get past the reprints, and (2) we get into the real plot. I was gonna suggest red instead of orange, but that would be too Christmas-y in color. Maybe blue? Orange kind of grows on you, but it still seems a little nasty next to green.

Re: Converting 4E D&D to C&C?
I was thinking about C&C again and about adapting the things I like about 4e to C&C rules. And yet, I find the task to be a bit much. 4e has introduced a lot of new elements I like. I don't think the races would be that hard, but the classes would be. There is no psion, no avenger, and no w...

Re: What RPG products are you looking forward to in 2011?
I'll admit that I'm getting kind of tired of really thick hardback rulebooks.
Remember when rulebooks were tiny? Homes Basic D&D was 48 pages? Mentzer B/X (rules for levels 1-14) was 176 pages divided into 3 rulebooks of 64 (Basic Player), 48 (Basic GM), and 64 (Expert) pages?

Got mine yesterday, so I know I have at least that issue on my subscription.
Also, my comic is in there! (Okay, so old-timers will notice that it's a repeat of one I did 5 years ago for Crusader #1, but there are more where that came from!)

Only a couple things that come to mind right now: * The C&C CKG, of course! * Rogue Games' revised Thousand Suns RPG * Goodman's DCC RPG * Lords of Gossamer and Shadow (compatible with Amber Diceless) I'm hoping that there is a lot more coming out that I want, but I haven't heard about it yet or...

Re: "Nouveau Retro" Modules From Other Publishers
Another vote for Goodman's C&C and DCC modules. Top rate!
I agree that most 3E modules are easy to convert. I'm strugglling with 4E conversion and think it's better just to start over rather than to try to actually switch one into the other. OSRIC is easy to convert as well.

finarvyn, I wasnt attempting to be snarky at all. What about D&D4e do you want to keep? Wouldn't it be more simple to just reboot using C&C or what have you? Well, my players love the concept of having lots to do. A typical 1st level magic-user in OD&D or C&C doesn't get as many spe...

.... why would you want to do this again? Just looking for something a bit more simple? Because not everyone loves the complexity of your favorite game? Mostly a matter of game feel. Our 4E adventures so far have really bogged down in combat and a single encounter seems to take our entire game sess...
