Re: New stuff on 'The Anvil'

No, can't do the Gith. WotC won't let anyone use them. Not part of teh SRD, which really sucks. I really wanted to give them a bit of an Airdhe-makeover. Incorporate them with the Winter's Dark somehow. Alas... WHAT??!! Y'mean I'm gonna hafta convert the Githyanki on my own from my original Fiend F...

Re: On the Anvil {04-23-09} TLG 8015 Castle Keepers Guide

Thanks for the table of contents link, Demiurge. Nice contents from the titles. I like pg. 81 - "How not to use NPCs". I mean, of course I learned that, but I think such a chapter will be especially useful to a new CK...and once I get a group together, I'm surely going to mentor one or two...

Re: C&C as Rosetta Stone

Me, I'm just overjoyed to have found C&C. Having started with AD&D 1st Ed. and never seeing the need to more overly complicate things with any of the following editions, I have a boatload of old modules (can you say, "Hidden Shrine of Tomoachan" and Judges Guild, etc?). So now I ca...

Does anybody here have something made from snake skin? Or has worked with snake skin or lizard skin? (They might know...) RE: If you consider the hide is a living part of a dragon's body, the AC is so tough because it gets renewed, heals, etc, yes? And would the now-dead hide lose that? So, maybe pa...

"The book be cursed!!!" - So, you're telling us that every time we
pick up the CKG we better have a remove-curse spell (MANY of them)
handy if we want to switch books and actually use the PHB or M&T?
That's how cursed items work, right?

The Copper (or Green) Archons (concerned with love, art, and feminine matters), says: "I'll now give you an overview of the comic, 'Archie'." ;)

Seriously though, good stuff here. Nicely done. It's like the Illuminati meets Time Bandits.

Re: Oh for the love of the game!

Here's my 2-cents: Most folks are naturally helpful if asked. So, call each one in your gaming group and invite them for a coffee get together or such, explaining that you need their help with campaign ideas. Just that, no more, do not mention C&C. If pressed for more info, tell them you'll tell...

Re: Detailed magic item crafting...

Treebore, I don't know of any myself, but I always used the AD&D 1e DMG sections covering properties of herbs, stones & gemstones, etc, whenever some player wanted to craft an item. IIRC, hematite was reputed to have some healing properties or helped healing, so I'd rule that a healing-prope...

Re: A Few Magical Weapons and Items

Damn, Kris, you got some wowzers in here! Thanks, these are quite cool! Many years ago, one of my players (fighter) found a magic, intelligent sword. A few games later, the thief found a magic, intelligent dagger. They were a matched-set: male persona sword, female dagger. The fun was that the fight...

Re: A Few Magical Weapons and Items

Nice ones there. One I came up with many years ago: Magic Hat - in appearance, just a somewhat battered black top-hat. Once per week, the wearer can reach in and pull out a white rabbit which, if thrown, will be persued by any and all monsters that are persuing the hat wearer until the rabbit is cau...

Should've read the torture section instead;

you always start small with torture and work your way up.

In other words: use the Defrost setting first, not High.

yeah, way back when I had players they wanted just the basic us .vs the m stuff -- bit by bit I could build up the world by repeated interactions with certain NPCs, areas and such. I think what saved me was after the 3rd D&D game I ever ran (not 3rd Ed. but THIRD actual DMing of a game) - was th...

Re: The first split?

Personally, I'd like to think that the pre-CKG C&C rules would be that elegant, simple (but not simplistic) template used for tournament play, and other multi-player games outside of one's own home-group. That way, any C&C player could play (or run) a pick-up game with ease and familiarity o...

An example of this disconnet/reconnect change-stuff using RPGs actually is something I've done...although that wasn't my motive - 24 years or so ago (GawdsAndGawdesses, has it been that long?), when a member of a once-a-week game night, I decided to put together a different scenario the next time I ...

umm, maybe because it's "Sword and Sorcery" and

not "Hammers and Sorcery"?

And, to add to what's already been alluded to:

Nobody says, "Hey, babe, wanna see my hammer?"
