Re: Sell me on Basic Roleplaying.
Also, a specific question: I keep hearing that the combat is very deadly. Any comments on that? True, false? Deadlier than C&C? If so, what makes it so deadly, and are there optional rules for making it a bit less deadly? It's deadly enough to convince a player, after the first combat or two, t...

Re: Sell me on Basic Roleplaying.
That art is mainly the reason why I wanted DCC. I do like its way of handling magic, however, and may quietly use it in other games. (Don't tell!!)

Re: Sell me on Basic Roleplaying.
I've loved BRP ever since 1978, when it was just called "Runequest." By 1980, IIRC, Chaosium published the bare bones as a quick-start in the first Call of Cthulhulhulhu (I know how to spell "Cthulhu," I just don't know when to stop!) box - and our group (the No-D&D Gamers of...

Re: Classic Monsters The Manual
When all the copies are received by everyone who ordered them, would it be gauche for me to ask if the wait was worth it? It's not a question if it was worth the wait or not. I know the quality will be there. The question is if it's worth it to finance the print run by supporting a kisckstarter pro...

Did I mention the t-shirt? Forgot to mention the t-shirt. I tossed it over a step-ladder while ripping the books out of the box and completely forgot about it until Cherie walked in the bedroom with it. Did I mention it looks a lot better on her than on me? (So I like legs. Sue me.)

Re: Class and a Half & Weapon Proficiency
It was just taking the D&D/AD&D rules at literal face value. Armor class, for instance, actually stopped something from hitting, according to the way the rules read. So if someone shot an arrow at a guy with an armor class of -10, the arrow would stop in mid-air. Little things such as that....

Re: Class and a Half & Weapon Proficiency
Does keeping skills within classes make the game less realistic to anyone else? I used to run my SD&D (Silly D&D) campaign of GreatHonk with rules such as, if a fighter is running from the guards and comes to a wall, he has to stop because only thieves can climb walls. And thieves could put ...

Don't get me wrong! I do like this map. Just can't be sure, without using it, whether it works for me.
And I'm concerned about scale. If those squares are 10 feet, them are some pretty big skulls! Yipes!

I havn't noticed, but I haven't looked into it either. Are the thicker ones narrower? (did that make sense? I mean more pages narrower) Not only are some of my books thicker or thinner than others, but they have different words on the pages. WAIT!! They even have different titles!! AAAUUUGGGHHH!

Re: What's with 21st century maps?
This is a tiny sample of map created by Mark Allen that will be available before the end of May. Interesting - and pretty. Is this for the gamesmaster or the player(s)? Because if it's for the player(s) it gives too much away - and stunts the descriptive flavor of the GM's narrative, as well as the...

Mbeacom, I have the print version. That page is landscape (sideways) in print, putting Drow Map 2 on the left (first). What's a Drow map? JediOre , Dungeon Tiles? I looked at those and wondered where I'd get a table big enough to really use them. And then I wondered if they were for players who cou...

What's with 21st century maps?
Look, I know a lot of people were tired of the blue-inked maps on grid paper that we had in the 1970s. And I know that I'm probably the only person who hasn't cared for the 3-dimensional look for dungeons and castle rooms and inns and whatnot. To me, they still look like I'm peeking into Barbie's Dr...

I've tried Bumble Bees and Spintastics and a few others but I always come back to my first yo-yo, the duncan imperial. Is it cheap? Sure. Can I split the atom with it? No way. The original Bumble Bee axle, with brake pads, handles very much like wood. Try one, if you can find one.
Otherwise, the Tom Kuhn yos are the best available these days.
