Re: The NEW Codex of Aihrde

Who says the maps are supposed to be accurate? Real world ancient maps are often horribly wrong for scale. And just because something is written in a guide book, doesn't make it correct. Perhaps there was some bias by the cartographer that omitted that major city because his lord is feuding with a ...

Re: The NEW Codex of Aihrde

You make good points Tree, but I still think Judges Guild did it best with the hex system. I have seen very few of those modules off on scale. They may have been Gonzo, and off flavor at times, but never shifted maps like TLG does. Yes, they did describe heavily traveled trade routes that had little...

Re: The NEW Codex of Aihrde

My problem with Aihrde has been that the maps that come with the codex do not match the scale of the maps in the modules. I don't know of any product where the scale of the setting/world map matches up with the scale of the adventure/module maps. They serve completely different functions. Its like ...

Re: The NEW Codex of Aihrde

I did buy into the kick-starter for the new Codex of Aihrde. I have the PDF and have looked it over quite a bit. I like it. Some of the history may not get used in my campaigns. The players like flavor but not that much. My problem with Aihrde has been that the maps that come with the codex do not m...

Re: Race as Class

In a world where magic plays such a prominent part, and the gods are very present in daily affairs, there would have to be some pretty compelling reason for all races to not avail themselves of the available magical resources in the world. Why not have both strong racial archetypes and full class a...

Are you kidding me, comrade?? Not just skill, but brute strength and a few shots of vodka were required to drive the ole Moskvitch '62 with the Seigev engine. Shifting was high near impossible if one's lover were sitting on one's lap while driving. And clutching . . yes - you had to stomp the pedal...

Re: Race as Class

I don't ever remember race as class as an option in AD&D. So for me, race as class is the weird way. I'm like Rhu, why wouldn't societies of dwarves and elves have clerics, wizards, and such? I think race as class is unnecessarily limiting and feels like a slight to the other races. R- Well actuall...

I miss that as well. Elves were... ...well they were elves, not barbarians or monks. They were elves. Dwarves were dwarven. Humans had less special abilities but more class choices....like humans. Half-orcs were brutes, nasty, stinky fellows that made great barbarians or fighters. Not monks. Not wiz...

I may be shoving my foot in my mouth and upsetting everyone. That is not my intent, however I do not see the logic in using the siege engine in 1e/2e D&D. That seems to me, to be a lot of work. Why not play C&C? If 1e/2e is your thing, then play that game. I guess I am too old, fat and lazy to build...

Re: Action or options for the "stunned"

The Monk & spell stuns are defined. Just make up mundane stun rules based on physical severity. Being stunned by a near miss of a 500 lbs. GP bomb is going to be worse than being slapped hard by a lady. Common sense tells you that not all stunning is the same. I don't know. I have been slapped (in ...

Re: Tuning Undead limits...

Not sure you get another whack at the skeletons. But let me throw this in there. The animate dead spell only allows the caster to create up to his own number of HD in single casting and a maximum of 2xHD for a total number of controlled undead. So a 25th level caster placed the skeletons there. Or 2...

Re: Multi-class Fighter/Wizard

You could, easily enough, allow racial combinations to benefit over others. For example, you might allow gnome and halfling illusionists to multiclass with fighter and retain their spellcasting, whereas elfs, half-elfs, and half-orcs might be limited as druids are (that is, some armor, but not all)...

Paladin's Smite Evil vs. Incorporeal

May have been discussed already but how would you play this? The paladin has smite evil but has no magic weapon. He attacks an "evil" wraith using smite evil. Can he do damage without a magic weapon? I suppose the smite evil should be able to affect incorporeal creatures. Would only the smite damage...
