What didn't you like about 1st Ed. AD&D?
<t>I've been inspired recently to look into some 1st Ed. AD&D rules to house rule into my C&C game and I noticed that I can't remember why I switched so quickly away to 3e. I remember I didn't switch to 2nd Ed. until the black cover books came out in 1995 and only because no one I knew playe...

XP amounts?
<t>I now understand that the creators of C&C came up with the xp amounts/level by assigning amounts to the aspects of the classes. That's cool! But does anyone know the rhyme or reason of the scores in AD&D? Gary could have made the progressions all the same, but for some reason he didn't, a...

<t>Some see hit points as how physically tough they are and thus how much damage one can take before being killed. I don't see it that way. I always looked at Hit Dice as a representative of combat training. The way I look at it, no matter the race, a stab to the heart kills all races the same. But ...

Minimum ability scores for classes?
One thing 3e did away with was minimum ability scores for classes. I'm curious if anyone has reintroduced them into their C&C games.

<t>Actually, I'm only adding STR bonus to damage when a creature uses a weapon. I'm using natural attack damage as is. I figure the natural strength of the creature is figured in to the natural attack damage.<br/> <br/> So, when it says, "or by weapon", I'll pick a weapon and add the HD to damage bo...

<t>Ah yes, Bards too!<br/> <br/> Actually, I reread the Horsemanship description and noticed that the Knight's ability to fight from a mount without an attribute check seems to include both riding and war-trained mounts. The only difference seems to be that with war-trained mounts they can make an a...

Mounted combat, let's see if I got this right
<t>The information on mounted combat is a bit lacking in the PHB. But I want to know if I've surmised it correctly.<br/> <br/> Anyone can fight from a warhorse but, except for the Knight, must make a Dex attribute check to make a melee attack, ranged attack, or cast a spell. Only a Knight can also f...

<t>Oh, okay, for checks I see it and have done it that way. But what about damage? Nothing is mentioned about a bonus to damage, or is there?<br/> <br/> If I were to lets say, give a +3 damage to an ogre, that would mean a +3 to strength checks as well, giving a total of +7 because of the HD. And al...
