Re: ranger prime
When I first showed up here I asked about letting a fighter have dex as the class prime instead of strength. It was just part of a thought experiment on transferring an old AD&D character to C&C, and I was curious how many CKs would allow it. I don't recall any naysayers. If it fits the character an...

My shirt tucked into my underwear? I must have been gaming the day they explained that one.
I just made it across the Major Geek threshold, probably due to movie watching; the only boxes left unchecked in that section were All Star Trek Movies and Donnie Darko.

Re: Low Magic?... Sure... but what about no magic
I've not gamed in a magic-free fantasy world, but I've read there and I've written there. In fact, on this week's Writing Excuses, Ellen Kushner talked about magic-free second-world fantasy lit. If you wanted a game of intrigue, you could do worse than gaming in the world of Swordspoint . (I'm sure ...

Re: Code of honor for lawful evil knight?
In general, I like this list, but on this one I would change "the law" to "your law." Would the knight really care about the laws of a heathen city when compared to his god's laws? Likewise the line about criminals, as it would depend on whose laws they've broken.Lord Dynel wrote:6. You shall follow the law.

Oh, that one was quite obvious. I opened the PDF for the first time, skimmed the ToC, and jumped to page 83. It was a wonderful surprise.zarathustra wrote:Don't worry, Emirikol gets a nod too!

I cracked the pdf this evening, and I've got to say it somewhere, so I figure this is as good a place as any: I love the artwork on page 83. Takes me back (although, you know, mischievous instead of sinister).

Re: monotheism in C&C
Any RPG adventure is really telling a story I disagree. Any RPG adventure is creating a story, but we're all creating story every moment of our existence. A storytelling game is one in which creating the story is a focus, and players and GMs make decisions based in large part on how they affect the...

I don't do storytelling either, and games designed that way have always run cross-purposes to what i enjoy in gaming. I want roleplaying, with stories being told after the fact.

But if the Wizard researches a spell like color spray I would allow it. But you should make it slightly different and maybe bump it to second level. Something like that.... That's what I was thinking. I believe our nemesis in a long-running AD&Dv1 was a Wizard/Illusionist. Oi, did that guy have spe...

I've mixed the two within the same game world, with some cultures being polytheistic, and others being monotheistic (and usually believing some unsavory things about the source of power for the polies).

Re: Possible alignment issues in my A0 game
It's not going to derail the group, but I don't want even minor friction. I can't help with the specifics--I'd just wing it--but given what I've quoted, in future campaigns I'd recommend having everyone build the party together rather than individuals creating disparate characters and trying to for...

3d6 six times, sort to taste. Do that a few times and pick the one you want. If the CK agrees, throw those out and repeat. A GM once had me generate six stat columns using the "3d6 and sort to taste" method. I think my highest roll was a 12, and it stood out. The GM threw them all out and had me do ...

A friend of mine played Rolemaster with some SCA folks in the late 80's. Always heard about it, but never played. Rest assured, the RM method will not be used here. That's when I dabbled in it. I was introduced to it by some hard-core by-the-book rules lawyers, and even they didn't use the XP syste...

My wife and I saw it today and were entertained. For the record, it's an over-the-top remake of the 1973 movie and not nearly as punked as the trailer made it appear.
Ray Steveson was probably the stand out, making a delightful Porthos.
