Re: What to Do About Magic
In general, I don't like critical failure systems that result in something really bad happening. One in 400 may seem like a rare event, but with several people at a table rolling dice, it might not be long before no one is willing to cast spells. I had a Rolemaster character who had an impressive me...

Yeah, he wouldn't want to give off a blank reading. That'd set off alarms. Give him a ring that causes him to be read as neutral or something. I seem to recall somewhere back in the World of Greyhawk material there was a paladin in deep cover within the low-level government of the devil-aligned coun...

Re: My UA's have arrived!
I liked some bits from the UA, but overall thought our campaigns would have been better without it. I remember that human generation table. "How many 18s does your character have?"

I'm stumped by the first question.
I haven't bought anything in about a year and have no plans to buy anything in the near future, but I use TL products when I game. Does that make me a customer?

It's rated R.
Our choice for this month's movie came down to H&G or Warm Bodies. We went the other way (and were happy with our choice), but we'll definitely watch H&G at some point.

Hmm. Now I can't find the version I had. It was loaded with anecdotes, more or less contemporary with Sun Tzu, that provided historical examples of his tactics.
I picked up my copy because I was playing a character who was supposed to know military tactics.

I haven't used a C&C lich, but a couple decades ago my PC moved into Tegal Manor. (It was his NPC wife's idea, and I can't image where she got it.)

Amazon must have the crappiest lawyers money can't buy. I doubt Amazon bothers having lawyers deal with DMCA takedown notices. The recipient of a takedown notice assumes no liability for their action when pulling the item, even if the claim proves bogus, so pulling the item offers the quickest reso...

Space Marine (TM)
In December Games Workshop, which has a trademark on "space marine" in the gaming context, had Amazon take down an ebook by M.C.A. Hogarth, a novel entitled Spots the Space Marine . According to Hogarth's blog , In their last email to me, Games Workshop stated that they believe that their recent ent...

If a visual aid slows down a game. It isn't used properly. I'd hate to play in such a game too. I think it's more a case of a visual aid synching with or fighting against the style of game. With the type of game I like to run, grid & minis would likely draw the players' attention to details I don't...

Re: To Grid or not to Grid, that is the question...
Back in the day we had to map everything out on a grid in exact detail and use miniatures. When it came to in-the-head mapping and formations, all the players were more or less in synch, but the GM was on another planet. Now I prefer 100% mind's eye, or if absolutely necessary, a quickly sketched ma...

I've had a character pushed to the point where he couldn't heal or recover spells, but that was really sleep deprivation. The same character had to cross a wasteland with no potable water, but barring an unexpected interruption to his trip, I don't recall him being in any danger of actually dying of...

Not from Dead Gentlemen, but in a similar vein: Standard Action. Season one is available on YouTube, and it looks like they're working on season two. I think it's wit and production levels are short of JourneyQuest, but it has its moments. Standard Action is about a (very dysfunctional) adventuring ...

Hands of Fate won't be out until next year. The other two should be available on YouTube. The Gamers came out in 2002 and The Gamers: Dorkness Rising in 2008. I know a guy who ran a pixie PC. I don't remember if it was T&T or D&D. I do remember him trying to convince the GM that a pixie didn't need lockpicks. Just climb inside the lock and wiggling.

We probably played Runebound 40 times in the first two months we owned it, despite my wife running into the assassin on her first turn in the first game. (I think he killed her four times before she finally bested him, refusing to go anywhere else until he was dead.) We only use a few expansion deck...

Re: What boardgame(s) are you playing?
We finally got The Frozen Waste expansion for Runebound to the table. It adds some interesting mechanics to the mix, some of which I rather liked, but my wife thinks it might have exceeded her tolerance for fiddly bits. We'll give it another whirl in week or two and see what she thinks.
