Re: Computer help - New Machine

I just got a new Dell Inspiron. Pretty good deals on the basic model: http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-660s/pd?oc=fddnsx388w7&model_id=inspiron-660s Also, I dumped Norton and I'm just sticking with MS Security Essentials (downloadable to Win 7 machines free from MS), and I'm quite happy with it.

Re: Siege Engine test for new player

Agreed. Here's how I spell it out in my house rules and guidelines document: • The CK is the final arbiter of whether or not a character’s level is added to Siege checks. • Characters may not attempt actions that fall under another class’ abilities. However, characters may attempt simple, non-profes...

Cool, glad that worked out.

Ya, I have a bad habit of accumulating PDFs, esp. cheap and free ones, and never really taking the time to read through them. It's amazing what I'll find I already have when I take the time to look.

Quite welcome. That's easily one of my favorite C&C accessories. Reminds me of some of the best bits of the 1st ed. AD&D DMG.

Re: Encounter chart

Engineering Dungeons has random encounter charts, broken down by terrain / environment type:

It's also awesome in its own right.

I think the CKG and the C&C Freeport Companion have that covered.

Re: Fantasy Races third-party material

Minotaurs, Warforged, Dragonborn, Tiefling. Those are D&D 4e races, yes? I think that's a great idea - it might help steal D&D players and woo them over to C&C. :) I suspect there are copyright issues, though, so you'd have to come up with versions with the serial numbers filed off ...

Re: What gaming stuff are you reading?

Picked up Fiasco . Seems like a interesting game. From what I can see it'd be a good game for when someone(s) can't make the regular game but the group wants to play, instead of picking up a board game you could just play Fiasco in the same amount of time and still have a very fun rpg night. That's...

Re: Character creation question.

It's interesting to hear the opinion that stats don't matter that much. Back in the day, we all obsessed about them, but I think C&C makes them less important, thanks to the prime / secondary distinction. I've occasionally toyed with the idea of getting rid of the numerical stats altogether and ...

Anyone else played this yet? I'm very intrigued, and may have to shell out the cash for it soon.

Also, anyone bought their other products? The Kerenak (sp?) setting, any of the adventures?

Re: my encounters with Arneson and Gygax

No direct contact, but I bought an old Dragon magazine from Tom Wham several years ago (the one with the FILE 13 board game he designed, if you remember that), and he included a nice little note and an original drawing of a weird little character he was working on. I thought that was pretty cool of ...

Cool. I have the main IZ PDF, read through it pretty extensively, but never played it. It looks great, and as close to a hard(ish) scifi setting as I had found for SW up to that point.
