Re: Classic Monsters The Manual
I know it's a matter of taste - and probably nostalgia - but I'll still a sucker for good black-and-white pencil or pen-and-ink illustrations.

This is from the Troll's Tusk newsletter that went out yesterday: "Classic Monsters is completed and at the printer. It should be out in the next few weeks, assuming there is nothing wrong with the text or what have you. The bundles will ship as we get them in and then the whole deal will go of...

Re: Listen Check...Class Skill?
Move silently. Anyone can do it, but again, I only allow those with the class ability to add level. Furthermore, the class ability is qualitatively better - it allows for complete silence, whereas a fighter (for example) moving silently still makes some sound, and so I might allow an alert foe to ma...

Re: Favorite non fantasy RPG?
Savage Worlds is my main game for most everything. It's not perfect, but it does what I want a "generic" RPG to do better than anything else I've found so far (though I'm always looking ...). I've used it for lots of different genres and settings, and rarely found it to be insufficient. Ha...

Re: Your favorite fantasy RPGs?
I'm pretty much with Omote. I certainly enjoyed playing AD&D with my pals back in the day, but I would never play it now. C&C is my ideal version of AD&D (well, 99% ideal - I have just a couple of house rules ... ). I also really enjoyed playing MERP for a while. I liked reading Rolemast...

Re: Listen Check...Class Skill?
I'm pretty strict about class skills. Most of the time, if it's not a skill for your class, then you don't get to do it at all. The only exceptions are things that anyone can obviously do, such as listening. In those cases, though, no level modifier, and a success is qualitatively lesser than that o...

Here's a simple one I made:

The first two sheets are for characters; the third sheet is for monsters.
Hope you find it useful.

I pretty much handwave components - especially somatic ones ... Thank you! I'll be here all night!!! :) Seriously, though, I pretty much assume verbal and somatic, and only think about them if the situation suggests otherwise (e.g., gagged and bound). I more or less ignore material components - no f...

Neat! I ran several Greyhawk adventures using SW, and it worked very well. Their Hellfrost and Shaintar settings are also good for fans of classic fantasy.
Thanks!

Re: Castles and Crusades new edition?
I didn't have anything specific in mind - I just meant that I would buy another printing as long as there wasn't anything more than that. If they make a new edition, in the sense of a major change of the rule set, then I'm out.tylermo wrote:I'm curious. What minor tweaks or clarifications?

Errata, clarifications, minor tweaks. Anything more substantive, and I'd probably just stick with the current printing.

Ok. Looking at the book example, 25 hit point creature. 25 hp X 5 hd=125, and all I do is add the base of 80(for the 5 hd creature)for a total of 205. A 24 hit point creature(let's say a harpy)with 3 hd...24 hp X 3hd=72+the listed base of 20=92 total experience? It's brain fart day for me. Worked m...

Otherwise, as long as the hardcovers are of the Walsworth glossy-covered variety, I'd say you're good to go. +1000000000000. After the CKG, I'm gun shy about buying anything that the Trolls print in-house again unless the quality really improves and I can get a chance to look closely at the physica...

I count myself among those who are happy enough with their 4th printing PHB, but would gladly buy a 5th printing if it really were cleaned up and as errata-free as humanly possible. I'd like to humbly suggest to the Trolls that they handle it the way they handled the CKG, working closely with the fa...

What are you most looking forward to from the Anvil?
There are several awesome things on the Anvil. I can't decide which I am most looking forward to. I do loves me some monster books, so Classic Monsters is a contender. On the other hand, Halls of Adventure looks like yet another supremely useful GM aid.

Re: Spell resistance rule
Hey, sorry to resurrect this, but I need a quick clarification. If I've followed all this correctly, we've decided that the SR 1 for the white dragon was an erratum. But how exactly do we correct it? Do we just remove the 1, and replace it with a dash, or do we increase the 1 to a 2 (and then, presu...
