Re: FLGS or TLG store...

I saw the new Classic M&T at the gaming store the other day, but held off purchasing as I also wanted the PDF. It seems like the PDF pricing on the TLG storefront is a deterrent from actually buying locally due to the bundle pricing vs. individually. This is probably not intentional, but what benef...

Re: GenCon vs. Other Cons, specifically Game Hole Con

Ok, so GenCon 2016 was a great success, but was it worth it? It starts in January when you get on the flawed housing portal and hope for the 1 hour wait time to get a room and the dreaded 3 hour wait time pops up on your PC screen. You know you are getting a room 16 miles out. All the stress and dr...

Re: Gary Con IX March 2017

Hi all. I've been absent because I've been negotiating and facilitating a major change in I and my family's life, so having seen Brian's shout out just wanted to update: A short time ago my 2-year-long search culminated with an offer to join South Louisiana Community College as their new Dean of Li...

Re: What are you reading?

I just started getting into the Richard Sharpe novels by Bernard Cornwell. Great stuff! I'm a sucker for these too. Classic literature no, but good rousing adventure stories yes! Also the BBC show staring Sean Bean as Sharpe are great fun as well. I enjoyed Cromwell's Grail Quest Series comprised o...

Re: Who here enjoys playing wizards?

Ack, bad memories ... I know I've told about my first character being a wizard and after I cast my last spell the rest of the party threw me to the orc hoard to slow them down when they ran away . So, I won't go more into detail ... but needless to say, I got a bad taste in my mouth about magic use...

Re: Gaming group size

When I DM, the ideal group size is 6 players. If everyone shows then great! Many times someone will have to work, family issue will arise, etc. so that drops the group down to 5 players which is still great.

Fun game! I spent some time in 2010 running a villains game based in Jacksonville, FL that my players had fun with. They created so much havoc that The Avengers were sent in to handle things!

Allow or don't allow?? They are handy to look things up fast. When I'm running a game, whether it be for a home campaign or a convention event, I give the same statement regarding phones: If you absolutely have to take or make a call, please step away from the table so as to not disrupt the game fo...

Re: Fantasy Earth?

Ars Magica uses "Mythic Europe" as its setting. You might look at some setting books like Heirs to Merlin for England and Lion of the North for Scotland among others. It should be easy enough to introduce your system of choice to the setting.

Re: Alcohol and gaming

It is all about moderation and tolerance. At our games (5 hours every two weeks) I always have 2 beers (with a Coca-Cola spacer in between). Of the other 5 players, one will have a single whiskey/coke, while two others will occasionally have a beer each. It is no big deal, but then we are not tryin...

Re: Evil characters

Oft times, an evil character tends to mess up a party and cause ill feelings all around. I've found that initiating a simple rule helps make evil fun again. We've made harming other party members prohibited, so players are free to play characters with an evil bent, who typically work well with the ...

The risk with pick up games is not knowing what one will be able to find. For your badge issue,...

Re: Gary Con VIII (2016)

I had a great time at GC last year and spread the word about it to ALL my gamer friends... but GC had 11 months to put in place and test a system to handle event registration for what I estimate to be less than 1,500 people and the results only worsened. Many folks are still waiting find out if they...
