Re: Spot Checks…What do You do?
EDIT: My concerns vanish with the simple tweak that any attribute mentioned in the PHB is a suggestion only, and that it's always up to the CK what attribute to use and whether to add level. So for spot, I'd use INT, WIS, or CHA as I see fit, and add level only if I think the class is relevant. As ...

Re: Henchmen
I pretty much use this. http://www.barrowmaze.com/meatshields/ There is a minion hiring vendor in my sandbox. Basically if the players don't return the minion in the condition it was acquired in the costs for hirelings will increase, at a certain point the vendor will stop letting a careless PC rec...

Re: Bailing characters out A3 slight spoilers
Personally I wouldn't have even put them through A3 at second level. I think I did it at 4th, and it was still tough. Not the least bit surprised that a group of second level characters got beat up by 6 HD Trolls. All it takes is a few good rolls. What Tree said. A3 is too tough for 2nd level chara...

Re: Is the rogue "hosed" ?
I didn't feel that the rogue was "hosed." however, I did increase their BtH to be the same as a cleric and I added studded leather to his armor list. The BtH increase was because I felt 4 different BtHs was not necessary and the added armor was because, in my mind, studded leather makes s...

Re: Henchmen
What level are your henchmen compared to the rest of the party? Equal? A level or two lower? The charts in UA spell all that out. I think his highest level, as a 10th level character himself, is a 5th level "Commander" type. Thanks Tree. I still need to look at the info the CKG as well. I...

Re: Sorcerer in C&C
I dunno, I have no problem with sorcerers. Like Arduin said, there are ways to ensure they do not get thier "rest". Heck, the party I'm running took one prisoner and hauled him around with them for several days. They just kept him bound, made sure he had no materials and kicked him awake t...

Re: Tertiary Attributes
Thanks for the comments all. I am thinking of using a 12/15/18 system. Perkins, your idea is certainly interesting, though I likely won't go with it, not now anyway, but it has merit.

LOL, nice! Actually, Lobo is a handle i've been using since high school. It was original a hero in the DC Heroes RPG (he as a "werewolf" of sorts). The name just stuck over the years, heh, heh.jdizzy001 wrote:

OK, I found it.... http://www.dragonsfoot.org/php4/archive.php?sectioninit=CC&fileid=169 The Sorcerer is printed in this Colin Sez article, along with a host of other stuff. This is the one I've been using (though I have to admit, aside from an NPC, no one has played a sorcerer in my game yet, h...

Re: Sorcerer in C&C
I went and compared the stats I pulled from...whatever source it was that had a C&C sorcerer in it...to the 3.5 sorcerer (and also compared to the C&C wizard). One thing I'll say, 3.5 had a good bit of a power creep compared to where C&C is. You can see this difference comparing the spel...

Re: Sorcerer in C&C
There's a C&C sorcerer class posted somewhere. I can't recall where, but I use the sorcerer in my game and I pulled the tables from that article. Dang, I can't recall where I got it from. But you know, doing it that way (just pulling it straight from 3.5, using Char as the prime, etc) works great!

Re: Tertiary Attributes
I have been playing with Tertiary since the beginning (before CKG). Each PC gets 2 primes, 2 secondaries, and 2 tertiary. 12/15/18. Humans get 3 primes, 2 secondaries, and 1 tertiary. Works awesome!! In my campaign I have gone with 12/14/16, however. I am not familiar with the CKG version of tertia...

Pages 230/231 of the CKG have rules for adding a tertiary attaribute to the game. Is anyone doing this? If so, how has it affected the game balance or challenge level for the PCs?

Henchmen
How do you run henchmen? Do you even use them? For the longest time, I tried not to use 'em. Just figured I could adjust encounter accordingly, but recently, we had a player drop and where the characters are, it made more sense to replce the missing PC with a couple of henchmen. Seemed to work out o...

Re: How Old School do you want it?
Glanced at the link briefly. Gotta say, that doesn't sound fun to me. All old school games were not run like that. How can you develop a story doing that? I guess it could be fun for a laugh, an evening of "how many characters can we grind through", but that's not Role-Playing. That's meat...

This is where that old copy of the rarely-used Wilderness Survival Guide will come in handy! :) The WSG, page 18-19 goes into detail about what clothing will protect against what weather. It's worth a look. The good page is 21, where there's two great charts - one for temperature ranges and their e...

Re: Pair of Magic Daggers
Thanks! I'm still a little concerned about them being "too tough", but I think the conditions for thier use are situational enough to not be over powering. And if the rogue wants to get in close for the back attack, that's fine (that just means he's in the melee ;o) ).Dracyian wrote:i like it

Re: Cold....COLD...weather
This feels like hand-waving territory for me. The only time I would ever worry about rules for hypothermia would be someone falling through ice into water, getting stuck outside in a blizzard or otherwise being put at considerable risk for exposure. If you are going to make checks or saves, don't m...

OK, so the party is heading into some cold, cold weather. There is an expanse of land in my homebrew called the Frostfell. It's a frozen land, populated by artic creatures, giants and the like. No one has ever really explored the Frostfell. It's cold, harsh and deadly. Question, how would you go abo...

Re: My game begins today!
Well we just got characters created yesterday. Some who wanted to play weren't there so next session will be when we start playing. Out of curiosity what should the average ac of a level 1 paladin be? I let him shop with his gold and he managed to get an armor class of 27. Should that be possible? ...

Amidexterity
Does anyone play with an Amidexterity advantage? I've noticed it's not really addressed in the rules anywhere, and I'm not sure how it would be implimented. I've just not allowed any such thing, but if it were allowed, how would you do it (or how are you doing it). Specifically this would be mostly ...

I think both of those are nice enough, if a bit power creepy. Which, if you're cool with power creep, I might suggest something like the following. It will make your rogues more versatile, their damage output less swingy and won't keep piling on effects to an ability that is already somewhat mechan...
