Re: Level of Technology in Your Campaign
I noticed the Erde Codex mentions that Unklar created "firearms" (can't recall how it's worded) in the Pits of Despair in Aufstrag (as part of the evils he crafted in the pits). Is anyone using firearms in this fasion? Maybe remenants of the recent Winters Dark period? Very rare (not avail...

Re: Fate Point Idea
I used Fate Points in my C&C Conan campaign. It created a very heroic feeling game. Players got 2+level in FP, and could use 1 FP per round. FP's refreshed every session. There are 6 uses for FP's: 1. Auto-success. Instead of any d20 roll, 1 FP can be spent, counting as a natural 20. If a comba...

Re: Fate Point Idea
OK, so here is he way I ended up wording it in my House Rules doc. Note, that I make the possibility of losing Fate Points on a natural one a good bit more possible. FATE Fate point represents elements that come into play at "opportune" times to save your skin, or give you some much needed...

Re: Fate Point Idea
That's pretty neato, I think. Another idea, tying criticals to it, is to allow players to spend a fate point to turn a hit into a critical... perhaps on a natral 18+ that also already hit (basically making it a 3rd ed expanded 'threat range' deal). just off the top of my head.... There is already s...

Re: Fate Point Idea
Thanks for the thoughts gang... @ Savevsfail - the adding of gate points on a leveling basis is how it's presented the CKG (I didn't make that up). You only start with 3, and once used, they are gone until you level (and then, you only get 1-4). @ omote, you are correct, but then, since I'd do somet...

Fate Point Idea
Just a bit of inspiration that hit me, thought I'd share. The concept of Fate Points in indtroduced in the CKG, this is something I will be using in my game. You being play with 3 and gain 1-4 additional Fate Points at every new level. Something I'm considering is allowing the characters to gain a F...

Re: Dual Wield Rangers and Combat Maurader
What you really need to worry about is the rule from the CKG that allows for multiple bow attacks in a melee round. If your buck-suave ranger fires 4 times in a round, look out! This is why I would only let it apply to a single (the first/primary) attack in the round by the ranger. ~O Wow, I dodn't...

Dual Wield Rangers and Combat Maurader
If a ranger elects to dual wield, does he apply his combat maurader damage to both attacks, or just the primary attack?

Weapon Size Question
Hey Gang,
Sorry, I don't have my books on my, but in regards to weapon size, where abilities or rules reference "light weapons", what is considered a light weapon? Where is that listed?

Re: Just how small is the print in the CKG digest?
It's small enough that after I ordered the PHB, M&T and the CKG all in digest form from Amazon (tight budget and all, trying to save money) I ended up sending them all back to Amazon and re-ordering the full-sized hardback copies of each one. I found the digest versions almost unusable, and I do...

Re: Ranger Damage??
Thanks for the kind words, and heck yes input matters to me. Re: Ranger Damage??
Well, I don't necessarily think your changes break anything too badly. I would not call them "better design" though. The point of the ranger, IMO is that he's a specialist. It's not better design to make him less so and more of an "all around". The pure fighter is an "all a...

Re: Ranger Damage??
Thanks for the replies all. It does, indeed, bother me, so this is what I am going with.... Combat Marauder Combat Marauder is altered to +1 damage for every two levels of experience. Additionally, the ranger is able to select a bonus advantage at 1st level (this is in addition to the normal advanta...

I do this instead Combat Marauder: Rangers possess an extraordinary ability to combat their most common foes; goblinoids, kobolds, orcs and giants, due to intense training and study of their enemy‘s fighting techniques. When fighting bugbears, goblins, hobgoblins, kobolds, orcs or giants (giants, t...

Re: Ranger Damage??
OK, I have to ask, since I have not run the game long enough to know, but the rangers favored enemy damage...+1 PER LEVEL? Is that a bit overdone? Overpowered/excessive? Yes I do. I changed it to just his "favored enemy" not all humanoids & giants. So, if the ranger chose Trolls, he g...

Re: Cost of Heavy Pull Bows
I simply multiply the cost of the bow for each +1 of strength damage, though there may be additional information somewhere within the books. For my purposes, I simply charge: +1 = Cost x 2, +2 = Cost x 3, +3 = Cost x 4. This keeps it somewhat reasonable, since a "heavier" bow isn't necess...

Cost of Heavy Pull Bows
CKG p. 257 has a chart to determine damage bonus for different Pull Weights of bows. While I like the chart, no where is there a cost associated with these bows. Can anyone offer some advice on how much these varying Pulls will affect the cost of the bow. Again, look on p. 257 in the CKG to see what...

"...would you allow magic items to be "breakable" at all?" Oh, yeah - some of our most memorable games were due to someone breaking their magic item. "...is there a certain "level" of bonus that is simply unbreakable? Say, +3 or higher items?" I'd vote: NO on...

Opinions/Advice on Weapon and Equipment damage
Look in the CKG on page 153 and you will find Simple Rules fo Combat Wastage . Basically, I am going to be using these rules for critical hits and fumbles to add a level of equipment management to the game, rolling for weapon/armor damage on a critical and such. Instead of what the book suggests (1-...

Re: Customizing Monsters
Chap named DangerDwarf on these forums came up with an idea that's taken on a pretty universal C&C standard. Or at least lots of folks use it. "Level" the monsters. If you want to make a 4th level orc fighter as your general, for example, he just then becomes a 4HD creature. So he'd h...

Customizing Monsters
Not sure how many of the C&C players out here have experience with 4e, but one thing I liked about the monsters in 4e is their ease in customizing and re-flavoring. One mechanice they have is called Solo's and Elites, where a solo represents roughly 5 standard monsters and an elite represents 2....

Re: Attribute Generation
I for one don't like low-level PCs with a ton of high stats. Sure, if they roll and get high scores, fine. But having all 6 attributes in the teens kind of stinks. In my games, I occasionally give PCs the ability to raise a stat. This can be done through magical means (usually) magic items, or thro...

And they can always be capped-- don't take the obligatory -1 CON for resurrection from the person being healed, for instance, take it from the caster .... and now, it has to really be worth it for a caster to want to use it. Plus, the characters are supposed to be a cut above... This is where I think a lot of the methods either derive from or not. Which makes sense, of course. Are the characters heroes?
