Re: Victorious Nominated for Three Castles Award!

Again, thanks. I've had to clear off my china cabinet top to hold the trophy; its big! ;)

...now Liz is bugging me to finally break down and get a fireplace mantle. Guess we'll have to now!

Re: Victorious Nominated for Three Castles Award!

Thanks guys, its still a bit overwhelming!

Trav, funny you should mention that. BadMike told me they have a graphic I can use on any Victorious reprints that state it was the 2017 3C winner.

Now, will Steve want to use it? That's the question! ;)

We won

Pardon the shameless self-promotion, but Victorious won the Three Castles RPG Design Award for 2017. I'm floored and humbled, since the honor is doubly overwhelming due to the very excellent competition (Heroes Journey, Maze of the Blue Medusa, and Treasure Vaults of Zadabad). Its one thing to win a...

The Intelligence Check part 2

Hello all, I've gotten some feedback on the original post last week regarding Intelligence checks in Victorious. On this post I answer a couple of questions and give more details about the INT check and how I use it at my table. http://victoriousrpg.com/2017/05/30/the-intelligence-check-part-ii/ GM ...

Re: 20,000

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Sounds obvious to me!

Re: The Intelligence Check...

Thanks Lurker! It seems obvious on retrospect, but I've been surprised (and dismayed) at how many RPGers seem to miss that point. Its not so bad for FRPGs based on the OSR A/D&D paradyme but most skills heavy games run into this again and again, at least in my experience.

The Intelligence Check...

...or "When do I think of that?" The below link is to an article from the victorious.com page about when and how to use Intelligence checks in Victorious. It is however generic enough to be of use to anyone playing a Siege Engine RPG. http://victoriousrpg.com/2017/05/20/the-intelligence-ch...

Save For Half Episode 04: "Cyborg Commando"

Save For Half Episode 04: "Cyborg Commando" This 1987 RPG, produced by Gary Gygax and Frank Mentzer with Kim Mohan, has a reputation in the gaming hobby as one of the worst RPGs ever designed. But is it really that bad? Your determined Save for Half-ling DMs take a dive into this game and ...

Re: [Save for Half Podcast] What's YOUR Top 5?

I don't know about most other folks, but I always prefer a quick rundown before I try to read an RPG I dont' know about. Its why my suggested readings section in Victorious provides a paragraph annotating each product; it helps people to make a quick decision before going in deep and only when halfw...

Re: [Save for Half Podcast] What's YOUR Top 5?

Huh...I could've sworn I saw that earlier. Maybe I'm thinking of another game. I must have, since I only went to very local ETX cons in the late 1980s. <shrug> Of course, Traveller already have wolflike and catlike aliens (Vargr and Aslan) but the slave aspect is interesting. Though I know a lot of ...

Re: [Save for Half Podcast] What's YOUR Top 5?

Hey Gringnr, Save for Half covers OS RPG s and the modern RPGs inspired by them. The former is obvious, but we freely admit the latter is pretty subjective...but its our show so we decide! :) We do try for published games though, so unless Rovers was published we probably won't cover it. Ah, the joy of random power generation. ;) I'll probably start making a character after NTXRPGC in early June. I'm committed (or should be!) to running Victorious at the con, so most of my efforts will be preping for that game. Oh, and the podcast. :)

Re: Origins in Columbus in June?

The last Origins I went to was in 1984, when it was here in Denton of all places (!) Of course I lived outside Longview at thetime, so it was still a big drive. Like Tree, I'd love to go but its too close to NTXRPG and that has priority I'm afraid. :(

Maybe next year....maybe.

Re: Media tie-in gaming

I read a few Albedo comics BITD, but our local comic store stopped carrying them just as I was starting to get interested in them. While I'm not anti-furry, they normally don't really interest me but Albedo did. I think it was more the military setting and the hard science that got me. Never saw or ...

I own quite a lot of them, but will limit myself to the ones I've actually played. Marvel Super-Heroes by TSR The TSR version was nifty, though the names given for each attribute rank (Good, Remarkable, Amazing, etc.) were kinda weird. Its value to me was its simplicity, which went out the window wi...

<nod> Just what we can expect the NPCs and 'world' to have going on. I tried to give some sort of similar format to Victorious with the 'chronicle alignment' system. Its nice to know what to expect ahead of time. ;)
