Re: Minis painted by jdizzy
Here is a mini I kitbashed together. It was composed from a warrior of rohan, aragorn, and eowyn's sword. It is supposed to represent Aragorn as Thorongil, when he was a knight errant for gondor and rohan.

Re: Character Death, Old School vs. New School
My old dm's philosaphy, and he said this a lot, I'm not gunning to kill your character, but I'm not afraid to pull the trigger. I learned this when I went in to rescue a member of the party which had been captured. We were standing outside a drow city trying to figure out if we should rescue our cap...

Re: Character Death, Old School vs. New School
I agree with arduin, however, compare newer edition dnd pc's to old school dnd. New pc's are very resilient and have more hp. Additionally, life is cheap. If you die, the party hunts down the nearest cleric, pays for a resurrection spell and poof! You're back in the game. Despite that, if you explai...

Re: Classes allowable for a Celtic & Nordic setting
It appears a replacement barbarian class is already in the book. Historically speaking, the barbarian is the original celtic class. That is the word the romans used to describe the northern european folks.

Re: The One Ring Bundle
It is a great game. $15 is a steal! Their mechanics for traveling, fellowships, personality traits, and corruption are simple and very tolkein. The game is not very hackable. It is kind of a one trick poney. It does tolkein and that is it. However, the system is solid and the game focuses on charact...

Re: Alternative to vancian casting
That sounds pretty neat. Persoanlly, I don't like consulting charts during combat. Pc down time is fine, but combatneeds to be fast paced, and with the type of groups i usually play with (noobs) checking charts slows combat.

Alternative to vancian casting
I got this idea from the sovereign stone rpg. Instead of fire and forget or mp based spells, try seige checks. In order to cast a spell the magic user musr succeed at a seige check of 12+spell level. Success allows them to cast the spell, but failure means they must try again next round. As a perk, ...

Re: Healing for the masses
Another approach which I found in 5e (I dont know if it made it into the final cut. Oh, look at that, relaxo mentioned it) is to allow the. Pc's to spend HD to self heal. This does not decrease their max hp, but instead provides a pool of dice they can use to recover after fights. For example, our 5...

Ring of Regen (M&T p. 117)
Restorative Ointment (M&T p. 114) - this one is very good. With 5 applications, you can detoxify psn, cure diseases, or heal1d8 hp of wnds
Also, the section on potions can yield a great deal of information.

Re: Magic Armor and Weapons encumbrance
I'm inclinded to side with traveller. Though weight is important when considering encumberance, I think mass would be a larger issue. Yes, lighter materials would help decrease the encumberance, but mass also plays a role, thus making something "weightless" even for a magical item seems a ...

Has anyone received their hard copy of the new M&T from the kick starter yet? I thought I saw an update indicating that it will be shipped soon. Did I dream this? I only ask because due to my location, my copy of the phb was never shipped until recently. The troll lords took care of me (huzzah),...

Just understand that he will nat on a dragon at some point, and he will nat against the big boss, so have a get out of jail free card for your big bads. Just make sure your other characters have their moment to shine as well. Another thing to con...

Depending on how realistic you're going, both reaper and dark sword have very specific figure finding engines. For variety i recommend reaper, for unsurpassed realism, dark sword.

About four of them are reaper, 1 is rackham, 1 is bronze age or tin man (i cant recall which) and the others i've seen but cant recall the manufacturers. No dark sword? For shame, their barbarians are great!

I would like to hear why you think he's overpowered. His bth even with the extra boost is still lower than the fighter, parry is the same as an advantage found in the ckg, quick stroke is weaker than extra attack, eye of the swordsman is a very watered down version of the ranger's combat marauder. S...

Here is a little something I cooked up. It was based off the d20 weaponmaster prestige class. Swordmaster The sword has been idealized in many societies. Stories of brave swordsmen grace nearly every culture. You are the protagonist of one such tale. Swordmasters are talented sword using warriors. T...

Re: Boss Sauce
My experience with advantage has been positive. I recommend using it as a gm tool. It is too easy to abuse. Remember, if you award advantage, you almost giving the pc a pass on their check. Likewise, disadvantage means almost certain failure.

Re: Secondary skills
I suppose I'm fine with the +1. It makes me think that the pc once had a plan to do something else with their life but after beginning training they changed their mind. I guess i was expecting a larger number of skills. Then again there is nothing stopping me from awarding 2 or more secondary skills.
