Re: Your Campaign; is it Status Quo?
It's not that one night of gaming equals events to cover the year. My legacy rules are developed under the premise that during the course of a game year the night's episode is the noteworthy event that occured during the year. Real life is actually quite uneventful. Likewise, my legacy rules take al...

Primal Instincts question
This question spawns from scottm's thread about the primal instinct for barbs. Primal Instinct awards a +4 bonus to physical checks. Does this include attacks? My initial reaction is no, since an attack, though it is connected to str/dex, it is not a "physical check" but an atk roll.

Re: barbarian actions
Sweep = whirlwind attack. Sorry about that. I was answering your query without my source material. As far as intimidate goes, I would allow one attempt per combatant. So if the baddy saves the barbarian cannot intimidate them again for the duration of that encounter. A good rule of thumb that applie...

Re: Your Campaign; is it Status Quo?
Though I have run very linear games in the past, I have begun to incorporate my legacy rules (each game night counts as 1 year of the PC's life), and since I have begun using them I have adopted more of an episode like approach. Each session begins (or ends depending on the time each group has. My s...

A question of race
I know each race has its own little abilities which make them unique, in addition to attribute mods, but I was thinking, humans have THE BEST race ability in the game. One additional prime is *HUGE* in c&c. Prime makes a task 30% easier and when you make another attribute prime that means 50% of...

Re: barbarian actions
I allow my barbs to use their sweep more often. Depending on the campaign at least once per encounter, or at most X times per encounter (where X = 1 + CON mod).

Likewise. Keep it simple for your monsters 12/18. Save the 12/15/18 for important NPC's.

Re: Challenge Base 12/18 vs 10/15 vs ??
Call it what you will, it's dndish. It's also C&Cish, Travellerish, et al. True, but when I play cnc I like it to feel different than dnd or traveller. Likewise, when I play dnd I don't want it to feel like cnc. That is why d20 star wars lost a lot of d6 fans when they made the switch. A...

Re: Challenge Base 12/18 vs 10/15 vs ??
Call it what you will, it's dndish. 4e resolves their actions the same way. Select a DC, roll d20, add ability mod, add 1/2 your level (cnc adds whole level), then add 5 if the skill is "trained" (cnc would call it prime). Again, there is nothing wrong with it. Just different strokes for d...

Re: Challenge Base 12/18 vs 10/15 vs ??
It's psychological. The break down of dnd DC's is pick a DC, roll a d20 add mods then compare to DC. cnc (though the end result is the same) the process is different. Select a CL apply the players CB (prime or non-prime) then roll d20. The process makes a psychological difference, that's all. D&...

Re: Challenge Base 12/18 vs 10/15 vs ??
OK, so I have read the CKG section on the development and rationale for 12/18. I had been basing my thinking on level-dependent checks (saves vs an x-level opponent, disarming an x-level trap, etc.), but their rationale for 12/18 was also based on non-level-based challenges (balancing on a slippery...

Re: Challenge Base 12/18 vs 10/15 vs ??
I think there is something to be said for the making characters more awesome argument. Regardless, the SEIGE engine discussion is on page 228-232 of the CKG, with page 230 being the meat of your answer. Lastly, if you are really bothered by the 12/18, I strongly recommend using the tertiary rules op...

Re: Challenge Base 12/18 vs 10/15 vs ??
The CKG goes into a big explanation as to why they chose 12/18, and it was all for percentile reasons. 12/18 with no modifiers is a 60%/90% chance of failure. Once you add in level and attribute modifiers it changes (Personally I prefer 12/15/18). In theory a lvl 1 pc with a +1 modifier to his prime...

Re: Challenge Base 12/18 vs 10/15 vs ??
I did the +6 deal. I didn't like it. I felt like I was playing dnd. I have nothing against dnd of course, I just prefer to play dnd when I play DnD and I want to play cnc when I play cnc.

Re: Minis painted by jdizzy
Here is Wulf bar Rus, my 4e dnd character. A fighter with unlimited hp. Okay, it wasn't unlimited, but once he used up all his heal surges, temp hp, powers, and regular hp it was well over 1,000 hp. For you dnd'ers out there, you know that is a lot! He is a Reaper mini with a games workshop shield.

First game night after a hiatus
I normally don't brag about my PC stats. I will brag about the PC, but not his stats. However, both me and my bro-in-law threw some *awesome* PC's tonight. Using the 3d6 reroll 1's method we both threw out some characters with *very* high stats. I am really in awe. His PC was good. An 18 (!), three ...
