Re: Low-magic campaigns
Last minute response from a buddy who runs games in upstate ny. "It doesn't matter what kind of power level/magic level a game is, im beyond any game thats simple stats on paper anymore if i want stats on paper ill play a computer game. When i rpg with a group i want to be playing a CHARACTER i...

Re: Low-magic campaigns
In response to the original poster on why low magic campaigns are popular amongst storytellers/gm's/ck's I dropped some instant messages to a few gamers and here are a few things they responded to when i asked them this question. 1. Giving players magical gear often defeats their role play drive and...

Re: Expert Work Armor .....Poor Investment?
Good point. The difference in 50gp vs. 17,500gp for just 7 additional points....but you are talking about the difference in ease of a 1 HD monster being able to hit and an 8 HD monster being able to hit. That is a difference. I might pay the extra 17k to save my skin. I don't know. It was balance w...

Re: Expert Work Armor .....Poor Investment?
Bishop made a comment that I have to respectfully disagree with (and welcome to the Crusade, Bishop, in case I haven't done so elsewhere on these forums! :)) when he said, "(e)ither way the discrepancies are there, as a player or CK its more about the rp value." I only disagree because I ...

Re: Expert Work Armor .....Poor Investment?
You have given me a lot to think about. I do not have a high-magic campaign. There are few crafters and wokers in the arts of magic, who are willing to put any "skin" in the game. The loss of experience for making these items is a real factor amoung my NPC's. It is not taken lightly. I am...

Re: Helm AC?
Unfortunately i guess short of asking the original designer I'll never know what the real intent was of the AC helm. :( Indeed. Your players eyes light up when they see those tasty AC bonuses, and then when you explain that it's nada, it's like you just took their slice of birthday cake away. I'm s...

Re: Helm AC?
It is from AD&D DMG. As far as Int part goes, it means an intelligent opponent will go for the head on purpose. The way the rule works is, every other to hit roll with an intelligent opponent is vs. AC 10 head. You roll a D6 when attacked by an unintelligent creature. On a 1, the to hit roll is...

Re: Expert Work Armor .....Poor Investment?
I noticed this as well when i was piecing together expert gear. Some of the lower priced items just don't balance based on the magic pricing. On the other hand it could be argued that magical items are imbued with magic and have other elements going for them than the simple Expert +1 craftsmanship. ...

Re: Helm AC?
I've always used this (from AD&D DMG): "It is assumed that an appropriate type of head armoring will be added to the suit of armor in order to allow uniform protection of the wearer. If a helmet is not worn, 1 blow in 6 will strike at the AC 10 head, unless the opponent is intelligent, in ...

Helm AC?
Helm AC? Its probably been discussed here before but i still can't seem to find a definitive answer other than "house rule." Where I get confused is that i THINK C&C intends on players using Helm AC as a called shot armor only. The problem is not defining how that plays out. On page 41...

Re: So who can use guns then?
Second to crossbow comment. That is most likely the logical equivalent. I'd even suggest taking it a step further. Based on your per-industrial era. Hand Crossbow=Pistol Light Crossbow=Rifle Heavy Crossbow=Shotgun/Blunderbuss (reduced range) Heavy Crossbow=Scoped rifle (increased range) Complicating...
