Re: Media tie-in gaming

TRIGGER WARNING: FURRIES I will take absolutely every opportunity possible to pimp Albedo. This RPG (or, more accurately, these RPGs) is based on a couple of comic book series ("Erma Felna, EDF" and "Birthright" by Steven A. Gallacci) .I guess I'm not the only one who found this ...

Re: Media tie-in gaming

Aside from the abandoned D6 Stargate SG-1, there are some other super rare licensed games out there. Dune, for one. I have a physical copy of the Blakes 7 RPG from Horizon, the official Blakes 7 fan club. It's pretty good, actually. Not horribly innovative, but totally functional and complete. Hews ...

Media tie-in gaming

This thread is for discussion of RPGs that are based on established media. Over the years, there have been a great many RPGs based on books/movies/comics/tv shows, etc. I thought I would make a thread for discussing these here. Have you played any of these that you particularly liked? Any that you p...

Re: My dice collection...

I have a pair of AKO six-siders. They roll fine, but as Aergraith noted, ya gotta kind of throw metal dice instead of just rolling them.

The AKO are aluminium, bu the way.

In a similar vein to the above post, RPG illustrator Bill Willingham used some characters he created for Villains & Vigilantes in a comic book he created, The Elementals. Great artist (and a nice fellow) ~ I'll have to check this out! :geek: Willingham was always one of my faves from the early ...

Re: Gaming tie-in media

A decade or so ago, heavy metal band The Lord Weird Slough Feg released a concept album based on Traveller. The album is called, simply, "Traveller". It's classic style heavy metal (that is to say, it's more like Iron Maiden than it is like Slipknot), if you're into that sort of thing. A ...

Re: What gaming stuff are you reading?

Labyrinth Lord Have you looked at Mutant Future? Dan is a cool guy who I gamed with. I need to take another look at this. 8-) Yes I have looked at it, mixing Gamma World (or Met Alpha) with D&D is one of the things on my bucket list. I have never played such a game, and LL/MF seems like a sweet...

Re: Expedition to the Barrier Peaks

I chose the wrong forum for discussing this. I wasn't my intention to knock old school games. I am sorry my comments sounded disrespectful. I was thinking more about how I as a player have changed my expectations over time. I began gaming through video games like WOW so I see these things through t...

Re: Gaming tie-in media

In one of the weirder instances of gaming tie-in media I've found, there is Hero Games' Champions RPG and its comic spinoffs. In 1986, Eclipse Comics (who also produced a Villains & Vigilantes comic that year) published a Champions mini-series. The book featured characters from the game, many of...

Re: Expedition to the Barrier Peaks

I think some of the tourney modules were published with scoring system and pre-gens included, in case you wanted to run a home tournament... Thx I have a tonne of materials. Re: Expedition to the Barrier Peaks

Well, I think it was born as a "tournament module" so it probably is a bit light on background. A background is included. it explains why the 'dungeon' is there and what happened to the people inside. It doesn't connect to character motivation. Easy to forgive some of the faults. The sett...

- I love the 80s myself, and I’d be the last person to grouse about era-specific supers games. <G> I too remember that X-factor moment; I’ve probably got the comic around somewhere. Wasn’t it just crap that she ‘lost her telepathy’ so Scott couldn’t mindlink with her and thus be ‘reassured’ its rea...

Re: Expedition to the Barrier Peaks

Beyond the setting conceit it feels way too much like a monster hotel for me. Like grinding through a video game. I suppose if your goal is to level up a character that is fine but this is a one off rather than a campaign for my players. I hope I can get inspired to add some kind of story to it. We...

Re: Expedition to the Barrier Peaks

Not really liking the TSR modules I've played so far. Hit and miss, mos def. But some of them were among the finest examples ever written. Lots of chaff to sift through in order to get to that fine, fine wheat, though. But, that's just my opinion, and, of course, YMMV. I've always been a HUGE fan o...

Re: Golden Heroes/Squadron UK - gauging interest...

If and when this happens, there are a few things people should know before getting into one of my games: - It will be set during the 1980s. Why? A couple of reasons. First, that's when the game was written, and that's when the comics it was designed to emulate were written. I generally try to keep g...

Blood & Treasure is one of my favorite OSR games. Very complete book and "feels like D&D without being D&D" if that makes sense. Not sure there is much knowledge of it here (haven't seen it mentioned). Curious if anyone else here has looked at it? Here is a good review of it: ...

good prepwork can make or break a sesh (and sometimes serve as a passible substitute for inspiration), especially if you're veering away from the published module. That would be my mantra as a ref: Be prepared, and always have a contingency plan. You never know when the simplest thing (like a doctor...
