Re: A question...
Yes he did. Once again using mere, untested ideas to support other unproven ideas. Now, as you know, massive amounts of matter/energy magically appear all the time. Well, that's what you're not getting. It is tested. The observational evidence is there, and the models do support the observati...

Re: A question...
The mass-energy might be produced as long as the net sum of information is not changed. If the base is a zero net sum of information than there can be no change without an out side agent. There is no outside. It's the universe. Remember that the Big Bang was not explosion in space, but an explosion...

Re: A question...
The funny thing is that, based on what we have been able to observe and test, it HAD to start at some point. BUT "starting" doesn't work either with the known physical laws. So we end up with "turtles all the way down". Once someone posits that the universe just sprang to existe...

Yes. This is a common "jumping the shark" error that happens when science is abandoned in favor of defending a poorly constructed hypothesis. Using non-theories to defend one that has been falsified. When defense of an idea takes precedence over testing and observation, science is no long...

Incredible stuff. Did you see them recently capture part of photosynthesis on the molecular scale using x-ray imagery? We're starting to really be able to see what is happening. Oh sweet. You did not actually address the first law. The statement you made only addresses the 1st law if the particles appearing are new and not already existing particles that have traveled to the point where they are "observed" by some means. I did address it, first by pointing out that "s...

First law of thermodynamics. The monopole problem. The flatness problem, Horizon problem, etc. Why go on. Those alone show that it doesn't qual as a theory. For a great example, look at Einsteins Theory of relativity. Look at the history of how the Scientific community reacted, how long it took to "win over" the majority of the community. Read some of the writings of the people who disagreed with it. Even when you are right, its never easy to...

The Big Bang Theory is just the most popular "Theory" out there. Yes, it has a lot of evidence that suggests its a good theory, but it still has tons and tons of questions that need answered before we can consider it "THE ANSWER". Hard core Scientists, thankfully, know this. So ...

I do. It doesn't answer on the macro scale. We don't even know if it is NEW matter & energy or just what is tunneling from place to place. (and thus we are not witnessing created matter and energy) That you even point to that as the answer to where ALL the matter came to support such a theory s...

Its not even that it "breaks" any laws, and even with everything that is observable, there are many big, HUGE questions that will need to be answered. Like, for example, why do we have the "laws" that we have? How did they come out of complete randomness? Within a second of the ...

Also, the "Big Bang" idea has holes large enough to drive a planet through. It isn't a scientific theory. It is a messy semi-hypothesis. It violates known physical laws and cannot survive testing. In fact it can't really be tested nor the parts where physical laws are violated, observed. ...

I agree but, some of it has been 'hard' science that was later changed. For example, Pluto's downgrading from planet to whatever it is now. That is NOT science much less "hard". It was so decreed by a vote of an organization as to an arbitrary definition of what a designation would be. It...

I don't prohibit what characters can attempt. I wouldn't ever say "you can't try that". Oh, I do. Ever since the "Swim Up the Waterfall" DC in 3.0. Quantum mechanics notwithstanding. :) Besides, once I open the door to "anything is possible," I also open the door to &q...

Re: SIEGE Check: What's the Downside?
What I am saying, and what should be in the rules (because the contrary is silly), is that there is no such thing as a negative difficulty. If something is so simple as to not be difficult, which is the very definition of the term, than why are you rolling for it? Why is it "difficult" if...

There is no need to assign a difficulty to drinking the ocean Sure, he starts drinking. For every half-liter of water drank he must make a Con save with a cumulative -1 penalty. A failed save means he suffers Con damage. Reaching Con 0 means he dies. Now if the character can make it through the who...

The Codex Celtarum has been available for over a year now and the Codex Germania is coming out this Fall I believe, so I made those references with purpose. Each of these codices can stand alone for sure but they also work together as the cultures and civilizations once did in Antiquity. Realistica...

Re: Would 2e AD&D kits work for C&C?
I always thought kits should be completely independent of class. Why not a swashbuckling mage or a beggar fighter ("will fight monsters for food")? Sure some kits might have a synergy with certain classes, but all combinations should be allowed. That would greatly reduce bloat and excessiv...

Re: Would 2e AD&D kits work for C&C?
I have no problems with kits in C&C. In fact, i think kits work and play with C&C very well together. C&C may not have non-weapon proficiencies, but that's nothing a rudimentary skill system wouldn't fix.

It's my humble opinion that Prestige Classes were meant to be "fixed" kits. The term "prestige" was used to mean that they were special and not everyone had them. I also thought it was noteworthy they were in the DMG (at first), as if to say, "you might get one of these if ...

You forgot option 3, for those of us who never played 2e - "WTH is a kit?" A kit is basically a collection of small benefits and hindrances meant to give more variety to a particular class. For example, in the Complete Fighter's Handbook, there'd be a kit for a Gladiator, Knight, Samurai,...

This sounds a lot like you're looking for the Vitality/Wound points used in the d20 Star Wars RPG (though I am not sure that is the first iteration of the system). All characters had a certain number of Wound Points equal to their Constitution score. These were not affected until all of their Vital...

Except, that isn't how it works in D&D or C&C. Starting wizards are basically young adults (read 18 or older) who have spent earlier years in academic schooling. Says who? I don't think there is anything in the rulebook that says it does or doesn't. That's entirely up to the CK and/or playe...

The 10 year old just beginning his/her training really doesn't even have a class yet, as I understand the meaning of class. So in the current game and in your proposed game, all those 10 year old already do have the same HP. Fair point. In which case, everyone should have 1d8 for being a 0th level ...

Re: A question of HD
That raises an idea for an interesting mechanic. Perhaps all characters should have 1d8 hit points at first level regardless of class. Sure, if you think that someone who spent his time from age 10 - 18 sitting in a class like environment studying (wizard apprentice) would be as physically tough as...
