I switched to 18 base with +6 from primes thinking it would be easier on my kids. In the end though, they always want to know what they need to roll, so it really ends up making no difference.

I have the same problem - trying to describe some of the weapons to my players (who also happen to be my children) has been difficult at best. A visual reference would have been nice.
