Re: Gary Con IX March 2017

There is a possibility I will still be around after 2:00 on Sunday, but I would probably be running a pick-up game of Dungeon World.

Re: 3rd party modules

I got permission from the Trolls to release a third party module at Gary Con last year. They were very open to it, although they suggested I submit it to them for publication before going rogue. I just haven't had the time or inclination to whip it into publishable shape since. I've been thinking ab...

Re: Gary Con IX March 2017

I suspect there will be lots of opportunities for walk-up play in featured events. For example, there are still 5 seats left open for Steve's big game. I believe a lot of other featured events also have openings going into the con. The limitations on the number of featured events people could regist...

Re: Gary Con IX March 2017

As for C&C I got into Sir Osis' Sabenchor Ascendant game, as well as Steve's Crazy Big Table game. ~O I thought about registering for Steve's big game this year (I've never played in it), but I could only do one featured event and went with Harley Stroh's DCC RPG game. I've heard great things a...

Re: Gary Con IX March 2017

Was the tourney thing happening again this year? Didn't see it on schedule but hope it's being run still just not signing up on line. Brian Miller assumed responsibility for the tournament last year. He had a ton of enthusiasm, but hasn't logged onto the forums since mid-December and the schedule d...

Re: Gary Con IX March 2017

This is a down year for C&C for me, but I'm happy to be playing in Tyler's Amazing Adventure game on Saturday evening. It'll be my first chance at playing AA. Overall, I ended up with a nice mix of RPGs and war games. This is looking to be a great con (again).

Re: Gary Con IX March 2017

Looks like we've only got 11 C&C events at Gary Con this year (one of which is kids-only). I feel bad that I'm not running anything, but I am just crushed this year with real life. I don't see any signs of a C&C tournament. Did Brian Miller pull out? It looks like he hasn't logged onto the f...

Re: Vancian Magic and Magic Items

I give starting wizards a defective wand of magic missiles. It can only hold 3 charges. The PC can recharge it by casting magic missile into the wand (one cast spell puts one use back into the wand). This gives the wizard a little more to do without grossly exaggerating the wizard's power at 1st lev...

Also, the forum before this had a chat feature built in and I think skathros was going to use that. Rigon and I played in his DF chat game before that. Do you remember what system Skathros was running in that DF game? I remember playing a B/X game he DMd on DF years ago. I'm wondering if we were in...

Re: Metamorphosis Alpha for SIEGE?

MA games can be run slapstick but mostly I've seen them run serious and the rules typically encourage serious play, as opposed to Gamma World which everyone classifies as "gonzo" somehow. I strongly disagree with this point on Gamma World. Not everyone classifies Gamma World as gonzo. Eve...

Re: What gaming stuff are you reading?

This is the first year in a long time I didn't ask for any gaming stuff for Christmas. I pretty much have everything I need. I don't want more modules, I don't need campaign aids, I don't need rules expansions, and I sure as bleep don't need any more retroclones. I've narrowed my gaming down to pret...

Re: Rogue One

I saw it yesterday. I'd rate it as okay to good. Most of the reviews I have seen are fairly glowing. I don't get it. Rotten Tomatoes has it at 85%. That number seems high to me. I think the fact it is a Star Wars movie is pushing people to like it more than they should (and probably making me dislik...

Re: He slammed C&C.

Using the word 'crusade' unfortunately has left some people feeling uncomfortable. I admit I was oblivious to the problem until it was brought up. Too bad they didn't call it Castles and Campaigns. I think part of the problem is critics' ignorance on the origin of the name "Castles & Crusa...

Re: How do you make a Playable Rogue?

I'll go further (or is it farther? I can never remember the distinction, but I digress...) than Google. Clerics make excellent front line fighters. If you've got clerics in your party hiding behind the thief, well, shame on them. Next time around you may also want to consider playing an assassin ins...

I finally managed to return to my home C&C campaign last week. We have been sidelined for about 6 months due to me being buried at work. I'm planning on taking Dungeon World out for a spin next, but wanted to give the C&C game a proper finale. We cut to the chase and had the party take on Ba...

Re: Oops.. I got a bit dramatic.,.

Step away from the game mechanics. Magic is magical. You don't need to find a rule or spell in the rulebooks to solve this problem. All you need is an NPC, scroll, or portion that the CK says can grow back a thumb, limb, etc.

Re: C&C for New Schoolers

I used the solo play rules from Scarlet Heroes (I believe the Solo Heroes rules you linked to are an abbreviated version of the Scarlet Heroes rulebook) for a session when only one of my players could make it. He played a barbarian. The rules worked really, really well with C&C. I'm not sure how...

Doing another read-through of Dungeon World in hopes of running a face to face game starting in December. I'm also dipping in and out of the C&C PHB while I run my C&C PBP over on RPoL.net.
