Re: Movement in combat
1. If you wish to move by an enemy, without engaging them, then you make a SIEGE check (STR or DEX), success and you move on by, failure and they may make an attack as you cruise on by. Not sure if this would stop the movement or not (up for debate). Hrm, well I suppose whether or not you stop coul...

Re: Back Attack
You are correct about the weapon needing to be no longer than your arm... short sword is about the longest bladed weapon that is practicable. As for dual-wielding, I am with Arduin, no only a single attack can benefit from Back Attack. Take this a step further in that to make a sneak attack you will...

Re: StarSiege Relaunch
I prefer option 3, or perhaps a hybrid of 2 and three, not being able to unlock higher bonuses until reaching certain competency levels. However, option 1 I am not a big fan of for one reason. As your expertise rises, so do all your specialties, thus if you have an expertise level of 4 and pick up a...

Re: Listen Check...Class Skill?
True, anyone can "listen", but thieves and assassins have a heightened awareness that comes from years of paranoia, being on edge while being hunted, and the need to sneak about undiscovered. This ability is much more than simply trying to listen in on a conversation, but to be able to dis...

Re: Good starvation rules?
?? So those rules have ~50% of people dying after 2 days without food & water? Dying in two days without any water intake is not unheard of, a single day without could also cause death depending on other factors. I much prefer ability damage and other problems over hp damage for dehydration esp...

This should be a Constitution save modified by the duration of the withholding and other external factors. I have been working on starvation and dehydration and right now it is a work in progress, but I have come up with - The base modifiers I would place at - Starvation: +1 every 3 days Dehydration...

Re: What do you think is the most powerful class in the game
Rgr on that. An Ill can do amazing things if the CK is willing to let him go outside the box. The orc chieftain reaches to grab his axe but for some reason, it isn't on the right side of his seat where it always is, but it is on his left ... He runs at the party with a simple stick while the party ...

What do you think is the most powerful class in the game?
In another thread, Arduin postulated that he thought the Cleric was the 2nd most powerful class in the game, and that got me wondering what everyone's thoughts on this were. Personally I would rank the cleric in the 4th spot, possibly 3rd, but... 1 - Illusionist 2 - Wizard 3 - Druid 4 - Cleric Now, ...

Re: Old Topic, Re-Hash
Ok, out of curiosity, and related to this topic, how many of you are using spontaneous casting for healing spells? How many make the cleric memorize (prepare) their healing spells? I don't use it. The class is the 2nd most powerful as is. I'd argue the cleric is the 4th (possibly 3rd) most powerful...

Re: Old Topic, Re-Hash
I like the "stop at 0" approach, as others have said, this is a dangerous profession, and there are reasons there aren't billions of level 2+ characters roaming the world... The reasons for me are many and varied, but really it all boils down to where you consider a character to be down an...

Top Secret 1st Ed. was excellent, not necessarily one of my top 10, but excellent. Someone mentioned Ghost Busters, only played it a couple of time, great fun. One I left off of my list and realized it today, Price of Freedom was a great game... of course it was the mid 80's so it really played on t...

Re: Favorite non fantasy RPG?
First and foremost, Gamma World (1st Ed)!!! StarSIEGE is growing close to GW in my mind, great toolset to build your game on! Dark Heresy is great, could use a bit of tweaks, but great (can't say the same for Death Watch, though I am running a campaign in it now, way to overpowered and tilted to the...

C&C, D&D, AD&D (1st & pre splat book 2nd), Palladium, and Bard Games The Arcanum. Of course truth be told, my favorite is a mixture of all of the above, since I pull bits and pieces from each to create "my game." The Arcanum was probably my favorite forpulling into D&D/...

For a Dex based fighter, ranger, or bard swashbuckler type, I love the Rapier and buckler (perhaps spiked even). For a regular fighter depends on the race, picks or hammers for dwarves, short sword or mace for halflings, longsword for elf and 1/2 elf, maul for 1/2 orc, human generally a bastard swor...

Re: New Advantage Idea (Feedback Requested)
OK, I like what you suggest. I just get into the mindset that why would the "commander" not just take the attack himself if there is no benefit to it? Unless he's giving the attack to a character who may have a attack bonus. Of course, field positioning could be a factor here as well. Hmm...

Re: Piecemeal AC
I think you miss my point on Cuir Bouilli... it in and of itself is not a type of armor, but rather a process and end product of a method of hardening leather. The leather would be boiled in water or oil, and rarely in beeswax, which caused it to thicken, it's dimensions shrink, making it pliable fo...

Re: New Advantage Idea (Feedback Requested)
Commanders Strike differs from Tact Pres in that it allows the user to give an action to someone else. I have it using thier move for the turn, thus is grants a +1 to hit (otherwise, it's just not that "attractive"). Now, I did consider what you said...just allow the field general to gran...

Re: New Advantage Idea (Feedback Requested)
My only issue with these abilities is that that directly impede on the Knight, Paladin, and Bard classes. And I will admit that a part of my objection is really in the name, which is a bit silly, but when one speaks of a Field General, you imagine someone able to sway the masses of an army on a batt...

A&A gives +1 AC to mail chausses and +2 to greaves, both with caveats speaking to the unlikely blows to the legs unless the character is on high ground, or mounted. (It also mentions wearing padding under the chausses for another +1 vs mass/impact weapons) It does not list vambrances

However, I'm still iffy on the EV penalty. At first look it makes sense, but then I read where using a gambeson or coat of plates actually makes wearing the chain easier (keeps the chain more fitted and has less fatigue on the shoulders). With that, I'm not sure which way to go. Don't forget that E...

(as a side note, I've seen an Apple T-shirt saying something similar about having windows for years as an insult to Microsoft) What most people don't know is that the first windowing system was developed in the 1960's at Stanford Research Institute, it utilized a funky mouse, but wasn't a true GUI....

Your bias here seems to be because you do not like, or really understand, how the Scientific Method works. I'm sorry, but what bias have I shown? With the scientific method based on inductivism, you propose a theory and then attempt experiments to show it to be correct. Yes, I'm aware of this. I'm using falsification as that is the method best suited to the subject at hand. Of course that is obvious when dealing with "macro-evolution&qu...

Re: WOW! Multicellular Life Evolves in Laboratory - in 60 d
The onus for proving the truth of a Theory lies at the feet of the scientist(s) that present the hypothesis; it is not set upon the shoulders of others to disprove. Actually, scientists don't attempt to prove theories, (not if applying the scientific method anyway) but attempt falsification. This i...
