Re: Hit Points: Summary or 'Old School' style?
Something I'm curious about, after recently reading some actual play threads of folks running either original set or retroclone 'old school' games (as in White Box old school), is if folks running C&C do the more modern version of hit points, where each level you roll a die and simply add it to...

I like dungeons that have all the richness (politics, negotiations, plots, etc) Any published ones come to mind? Here are a few from the TSR classic lines... L1 - The Secret of Bonehill N1 - Against the Cult of the Reptile God U1-3 - The Saltmarsh series, but you must run them as a series to "...

Re: Class and a half question
With the Class and a Half rules, you gain the abilities of the primary class at the character level, and the secondary class at 1/2 the level of the character. So if you were a Wizard/Fighter of 4th level, you function as a Wizard of 4th level and a Fighter of 2nd level. Taking the best BtH of the t...

Re: Question regarding 'Survival' (Ranger Special Ability)
I read this a bit differently from Redwullf... In 8 hours a ranger can forage for food to feed 2-8 people, assuming adequate food supplies exist in the area. At the end of the 8 hours, the ranger makes a survival check, and if this succeeds, he found enough food to feed 2-8 additional people in that...

That depends on who I'm playing with. I definitely enjoy the use of mini's, battle mats, 3d props, etc. But I am just as at home without.

Any chance we could see an index, ala the Dragon Index that was published, now I forget which issue that was... Even better would be an electronic index similar to the Dragon CD set!!! I could envision getting the new PDF copy with an indexer update as the issues roll out so you could do a search th...

Re: Enchanted Weapons (and Armor) Growing More Powerful With
I actually had a campaign based on an idea similar to this. The characters found an axe that actually had embedded in it the spirit of an ancient dwarf king. The dwarven kingdom he ruled was over run by giants and their minions. The spirit gradually was awoken in the axe through a series of specific...

I may be able to get a game in, Wed is a good possibility, maybe even earlier in the day, what are the times we can play? I know I am busy most of Thu and a good piece of Fri, and I think Sat Night. Re: New To C&C, Ancient To Roll Playing - Some Clarification
Google, agreed, if the Ogre is actively searching, HD would play a part in it, if not actively searching directly, but on a higher level of alert, it is mostly dumb luck that would find the Rogue. However, I would not give the Cover modifier as an adjustment, since that was already applied to the Ro...

Re: bec-de-corbin vs. armor bonus.
I'd read that reverse. Since AC is the thing to beat in order to hit, and given the quote that Rhu gave...I'd say it's a +2 to hit, not to damage since it is designed to punch through armor. Agree completely with Google on this. Now if armor provided damage reduction instead of making it harder to ...

Re: New To C&C, Ancient To Roll Playing - Some Clarification
Okay...giving this a bit more thought. The rogue would indeed use the base+HD as the CC to hide from the ogre. IMO The ogre would be allowed a Search check if actively looking for the rogue using its mental base+level of the rogue as its CC, but would not necessarily get a spot roll since the rogue...

Re: Little help/inspiration
Perhaps the books contents are the names of communities and population. The bandits raided a small caravan and found that it contained the census taker commissioned by the king to catalog his lands. The bandit lord has given a subset of the census to each of his lieutenants, basically a list of comm...

Re: Perception as an Attribute
See, we always viewed Wisdom as more of a "street smarts"/"common sense" (how you apply what you know, and we were always confused as to why a character with a very low Wis had to be a thief) attribute along with the more emotional/spiritual side of the intellect. This in contras...

Re: Info on Alignment
Also, keep in mind that Alignment should be just a part of the actual development and play of the character. Use Alignment as the general outlook the character (player or non-player), not specifically a hard line, unless there is cause, such as a Paladin or in some cases a Cleric. Even with those tw...

Re: Conversion of Material from other games??
The only issue I have with splitting the multi-class NPC is now you have doubled the threat since both can act in the same round. I would just use the character levels as-is, converting to the most appropriate class and using the 4th print rules for armor, weapons, HD and so. Such that sorcerer = wi...

Re: Readied Crossbows
I guess this depends on what you mean by "readied crossbow". If you mean the character is intently waiting for someone to enter their field of fire, and then shoot, I would tend to yes, as that is the players intent. Many game systems have a specific mechanic for this, usually called over ...

Re: Wild Casting idea...
What I have done in the past, is allow the wizard or illusionist to cast any spell in their repertoire in place of an existing spell they have memorized. This required a memorized spell of the same level or higher to be given up. The one caveat was they had to have a source to read the spell from. T...

Why not change the Prime for the Ranger to Wisdom in this re-imagined version? It fits more with the special abilities, and also the added spell casting.

Re: Class and 1/2 Need clarification
Go0gleplex, actually, I have a different take. The rule states "Experience points needed for level advancement are determined by adding the XP of the principle class to 1/2 the XP of the supporting class." I read this to mean you add the secondary class XP at each level since the character...

I appreciate your input; I know what you're saying, trust me. I played Warhammer tabletop battles and the rules were very extensive. My perfect example of a space exploration game would be Starflight. This could also be transferred over, quite nicely, to a paper and pencil game. If you haven't, despite it's age, get a hold of Starflight. Amazing game for PC or the Sega Genesis (ROM). ~O +5 on that, I love Starflight... SF2 was g...

Re: Is E6 in C&C possible?
I dont know about E6 with C&C, but I agree that E6 really sparked my imagination when it was introduced. I loved the whole idea of characters growing in skill without the exponential power markup associated with full on level gains. Koralis: "I'm not sure what the goal really is, as in the...

Re: Is E6 in C&C possible?
Well you really wont have much of an issue with levels because of different XP charts. The highest XP required to make 6th level is the Paladin at 48,001. Only one class, when attaining this much XP hits 7th level, and that being the rogue. So maybe let the Rogue, and possibly the Assassin who needs...
