Re: I have to wonder about "Guests" to these forums...

To me, "dealing with it" means banning the spammer. But at least the links will be removed. *sigh*...I put my foot in my mouth in this thread, because anything related to site administration and moderation I should have taken to PM. I'm a moderator on a small Android enthusiast site (androidtablets....

Re: I have to wonder about "Guests" to these forums...

I want nothing at all to do with my family, so I deleted them. They can't search for me unless we have a mutual friend, and my home page is blank to them.

My facebook is for the few people I want around me. The rest can kiss my a$$.

Re: I have to wonder about "Guests" to these forums...

I already reported the post, so he should have received it. And, it isn't one post, but all of them from the poster. I'll PM him, but it's bloody ridiculous that we have to jump through such hoops to get things done, especially when there is a moderator staff. Once upon a time I would have taken car...

Re: I have to wonder about "Guests" to these forums...

Never mind the guests. They should be allowed only to view, but not post unless they register. Then again, we have a registered user who registered simply to spam his gambling site. It's been two weeks since mods were notified of this person's presence, and his posts are still up. This does not refl...

You'll have to ask him on that one, but I don't see though why he wouldn't. It's free publicity, and might boost sales of Victorious in the short term as well.

Re: We won

Pardon the shameless self-promotion, but Victorious won the Three Castles RPG Design Award for 2017. I'm floored and humbled, since the honor is doubly overwhelming due to the very excellent competition (Heroes Journey, Maze of the Blue Medusa, and Treasure Vaults of Zadabad). Its one thing to win ...

Download the most recent version of Star Trek: Alpha Quadrant (link in my signature) and look at page IV. On that page is the list of items I declare as product identity in that book, along with a clear declaration of what is open game content. You'll see that I have mine sorted by chapters, though ...

Re: Castles & Crusades Classic hack

Well, I'm no lawyer either, and I make mistakes. The reason why you don't want to put your work in progress under the OGL is due to the possibility of major revisions or changes suddenly being made from one moment to the next. For example, if you look at the 6th printing PHB you'd see five entries f...

Re: Castles & Crusades Classic hack

Ok...let me slow down a bit, because I did (unintentionally) mislead you. You have permission from the Trolls to release this, so that means you're permitted to use their product identity. You are correct in that the OGL would then be required, since you are complying with its terms regarding produc...

Re: Stranded

Quite honestly, I wouldn't bother emulating Dungeons & Dragons or any of its simulacra. I wouldn't emulate Castles & Crusades either. Instead, I'd take what rules I remember and use them to make something along the lines of Dinky Dungeons or Drawbridge. Of course, I could somehow manage to independe...

Feedback on the newest version. Title Page: You need to create an entirely new title page that omits the OGL ; as previously noted, you cannot use the OGL with this document. Copyright on Castles & Crusades Classic would be 2017, not 2007. In addition, your disclaimer in red should read as follows. ...

It doesn't distinguish between what is in print and what isn't, but RPGGeek's entry for Castles & Crusades might be a good start.

Re: Castles & Crusades Classic hack

0.5", although The Gray Book and Star Trek: Alpha Quadrant don't use that narrow a margin. The Gray Book for example uses 0.75" on all sides, while Star Trek: Alpha Quadrant, uses 0.65" on left and right, 0.75" on top, and 0.46" on bottom. 0.25" is fine if the document isn't intended to be printed, ...

Re: Castles & Crusades Classic hack

You can pull spell information from the PHB if you wish and use them in the book. As far as I know they are all open game content. As to the art, you want to post the links where you downloaded the material from, in addition to explicitly mentioning that permission was granted. You don't mention on ...

Re: Castles & Crusades Classic hack

Feedback on the rules: It's a quickstart so by its nature it's incomplete. Especially the spells. The one-line descriptions of the spell's effects really do not adequately cover what the spell can do, but for a quickstart it's enough. Feedback on the art: Simply releasing artwork to the OSR communi...

Re: Q/A With the Trolls

TLG XXXX or XXXXX is the stock number of the book. For example, the stock number of "Of Gods & Monsters" is TLG 8017. When it is finally reprinted (which may take a little while) the new printing will have the stock number TLG 80171. The letter codes, such as A, C, and F, all refer to related advent...

Apparently so. Here's what mine says, copied directly from the PDF. WANDS Unless listed otherwise below a wand is a thin baton that contains a single spell of 9th level or lower. Each wand has 50 charges when created, and each charge expended allows the user to use the wand’s spell one time. A wand ...

@mmbutter: that doesn't jive with the rods and staves, which is why that sentence about wands being non-magical should be struck.

Re: Recharging wands staves etc

The information on recharging was added to the text of rods and wands for the fourth print, essentially copy and pasted from the text for staves. This explains why none of the items in the book have information about recharging, except for some items having a note that they cannot be recharged. Yet ...

In the SRD, the area of effect of Silent Image is "Visual figment that cannot extend beyond four 10-ft. cubes + one 10-ft. cube/level. From the looks of it, the Trolls went and simplified it to a 40-ft. cube bu...

Umm, if I recall correctly, I slipped them into the manuscript during editing, because no one told me otherwise. Like I said, I didn't find out I wasn't supposed to do that until after the fact.

Re: PHB questions

As part of the TLG style guide, the Trolls don't want authors or editors referring to specific page numbers, because the page numbers can change between printings. They want references to be by chapter and, if appropriate, section within the chapter. Something I didn't find out until after the fact.
