Good game! I really dig this little group -- oh wait -- can a person say 'little' around gnomes and halflings? Height challenged? Nope, getting worse. I'll just stop now.

Re: Aergraith's Sunday C&C: "Heroes and Scoundrels of Xylh"

Penny, for sure . . in that if this was a long term game, one should probably put the 18 on INT. But here's my thinking . . char concept as you mentioned ~ I'm going for a more aggressive combat oriented chaotic neutral crazy SOB gnome nutbag. So . . putting the 18 into DEX helps my AC and gives me...

Wow! Great image. Can I make a suggestion I think will make our party as strong as possible? Feel free to disregard if you have some character concept in mind. As the fighter I promise to try to keep you out of harm's way. Our cleric is practically a superhero who will easily heal anyone who does ge...

Re: Planescape with class-less D&D

Magical attacks are not rolled. This is part of an overall effort to remove touch attacks from the rules entirely. If a spell requires a melee touch attack - This is converted to adding a magical charge to a weapon, unarmed, or natural weapon. If a spell requires a ranged touch attack - This is con...

Re: Planescape with class-less D&D

Added spell list with an edit. I used the 5E warlock description for Eldritch Blast and put it into the cantrip 0 level slot. Put the Agonizing Blast into Level 1.The others are a combo from the C&C and 5E Warlock and Illusionist spell lists. I tried to show some restraint but it feels a bit ove...

Zumbido is interested in exploring more about the bad guy causing all the trouble. Particularly a heist of the amulet of Yendor. Anyone else have some goals?

A trap took Ayn down and as there is a bit of a rivalry between Zumbido and the cleric so she decided in her reckless arrogance to use the potions she has been carrying since last Halloween to help Ayn feel better rather than let that goody two shoes 'cleric' get all the glory for healing Ayn up. Re: Did I do wrong to weaken the encounter?

I wasn't looking at any particular monster description though I suppose I must have been thinking about the SRD. The C&C version added that gender detail in. Not sure why they felt that was necessary. Intelligent monsters do not always have to attack or try to kill their opponents. At least not ...

Re: Did I do wrong to weaken the encounter?

A lamia is tough! hahahaha

She could have used her wisdom drain and then charmed the whole party to join her merry band of minions. The next day or after the spell wore off the players could have slipped away on some pretence where they could gather their strength and make another attempt.

Re: Did I do wrong to weaken the encounter?

Another idea: give several visual clues about the pool. Lush moss grows around the circumference, a frog splashes in and out and from above they see a tiny school of minnows darting through the water. For a lot of the players I have encountered, that would scare them off even more. Every prisoner i...

Re: Did I do wrong to weaken the encounter?

One sign of a good GM/CK is their willingness to ask players how the game went and be truly open to comments. That takes courage. Nobody is perfect; everyone can improve. If your main goal is to make your game fun for that particular group of players who have said they want encounters to be predicta...

Mechanical construct or golem aka 'car' or 'truck' The fun part would be describing it from a squirrel's point of view and watching as your players eventually twig in. Even more scary: A seemingly endless dry-bed stream. Hot and sticky to the touch. Evil smelling. The geometry of the thing seems com...

Yeah, my wife has been studying the causes of rebellion through the years, and darn near all of them have to do with being able to eat, drink, and keep a roof over your head. Re: The French Terror – Social Unrest in a game world ?

A time of great social change could be a great starting point for world building because the themes and conflicts would just naturally follow. It would make the storytelling easier rather than harder.
