C&C/TLG on the rise?
C&C/TLG on the rise?
Okay, after my trip to the hobby store to buy 2 more C&C players handbooks, they tell me they buy directly from TLG and can't get any M&Ts.
Is this true or are they pulling my leg?
On a good note, the local hobby store has increased their C&C offering over the past couple months. Said the books sell as soon as they put them out. Has anyone seen the same thing happening in other places of the world? Seems to be a great sign for TLG.

Over here in Montreal, there is only 1 store that I know of carrying the C&C books. Even so, the same PHB and M&T has been sitting on their shelves for over 6 months. The modules are limited ( I think only 3 or so ) and I think I'm the only one to buy anything recenlty. I don't claim to know their stock, but I do go there often enough to see the same PHB with the slight scratch on the cover.
In the store that I DM Monthly games using C&C, they do not sell any C&C stuff. It just doesn't sell! Everyone here is into 3.5 and Gurps and such.

The M&T isnt sold out yet, so if they're ordering direct, they should be able to get it.

I've been meaning to share this...
About a couple of months ago, I went to my local game store/hobby shop to pick up a copy of the PHB for a friend. They had tons of copies and a few weeks before that, I had bought my own copy (my second copy the PHB). Both times, they had plenty of copies -- I'd say 6 of each. I pop in once in a while but hadn't had a chance in recent weeks.
I went in recently to pick up some C&C mods which they also stocked and was shocked to discover that recently, all copies disappeared!
A good sign but it doesn't end there!
As I was considering which modules to buy (and looking around generally) another couple of people spy the character record sheets and, out of curiosity pick them up. 'What's this they ask' -- noticing the C&C modules I had in my hand which bore a resemblance to cover design of the character record sheets. I considered it my duty at that point to inform them what C&C was. These players apparently had *just* made the switch over to 3.x and got very exited with all that I was telling them about C&C. There were desperatly scanning the shelves for copies of the PHB and ready to jump on the Castles & Crusades bandwagon.
I talked to and asked about getting more copies to the guy behind the cash (the owner actually) and he made a note of it. I picked up the four modules I had chosen (all C&C I might add) and prepared to left for home to get ready for the gaming session planned that night.
Amusingly enough, a player of mine happened to stop by the store about an hour after I did under the impression he could pick up a copy of the PHB that day. Seeing that he couldn't find a copy, he asked the guy behind the cash about it (same guy). He said that a couple of other people were asking about it and that he was going to place an order for them.
A very good sign I think!

I would think that C&C books in LGSs would be on the rise, even though my LGS has no interest in them. Oddly the game store in the mall, has carried them last time I checked. Which reminds me, I should have a visit to see how they're doing.
There is also a Warhammer/war game/miniatures store there as well. It was jam packed last time I was there, whereas the gaming store was empty.

Metagames is Springfield, Mo has begun carrying some C&C stuff. I don't get in there much but the guys there have said interest has been rising. However that stores management is notoriously pro-3e/WOTC. There are some there trying to diversify the selections but they run into a wall every now and again.

Rhuvein are you discussing the Woodfield Mall or Gurnee Mills? Those two always seem to carry C&C stuff. On a different note it took my FLGS (www.fortressgames.com) a good 3-4 weeks to get in a copy of the PH. I'm pretty sure they go through Diamond/Alliance. I had Game Universe ( www.game-universe.com ) try and order a couple copies but they've only got 6 copies of M&T and multiple copies of the module. Game Universe is the brick&mortar of www.rpgshop.com.

Hey Greg. I guess you're in Illinois or Wisconsin, eh? My local mall is Orland Square in Orland Park. The name of the store is - hmm, maybe Gamer's Paradise?? I've only been there once. They might be part of a chain, perhaps the same store chain as the ones in Woodfield or Gurnee. That's great that stores up your way have the books.

My Local FLGS (The Warzone Matrix, in Cleveland Ohio) stocks pretty much all of the C&C stuff. There was a flurry of sales when PHB2 was released. Now sales seem to be fairly slow with a few mods, character reference sheets, and a book or two sold every month or so it seems (I always look out for that stuff and check the stock levels when I'm there).

Wow, holy crap. Check your PM dude.
My FLGS stocks most of the C&C stuff, but doesn't seem to sell any. I know theres at least a few C&C fans down here with me, but I only know Combat_Kyle by face.
I wish I could see more RPGs move through my FLGS, but RPGs aren't their #1 revenue stream.

The reason why LeValet de Coeur in Montreal won't sell the C&C stuff much is because they told me they were upset with having to be stuck with the 1st printing. Now they practically tell the customers that they don't care for that line of product anymore and that Trolllords are also very hard to communicate with. I have to agree with the later since I've been trying to reach them for months on varied subjects and I almost never get a reply and if I do they answer very oddly. (Maybe because my English sounds too bad lol!)
It's a real shame because LeValet is "the" store for RPGs in Montreal and its surroundings. There are other stores in the huge city but that one is the ruler of them all.

A reasonable estimate would put C&C in about 35% of existing game stores. Our growth potential is huge, the problem is always getting into those markets, a thing we are working on. Of course the support received from you guys is tremendously advantageous as it leaves an impression with any retailer when a consumer comes in talking about a product.
Zeorn, I've contacted my distributor sales rep who handles Canadian accounts. He's going to email LeValet de Coeur right now. I'll also holler at her as I met her briefly at the Trade Show in Las Vegas (or at least I think I did). I wonder why she mentioned we are hard to communicate with as we don't have any retailer accounts in Canada and my distributors handle those. I don't think I've ever talked on the phone with any Canadian stores. Hmm. She'll be communicating with us soon. Thanks for the heads up.

Don't forget about us on the west coast... Imperial Hobbies
Drexoll Games
Two major stores in the Vancouver, Canada area...
I've mentioned CnC and they have carried some of your d20 products, let them know you have your own game line

While I was able to convince my small local hobby store to invest in Trollords products, LeValet in Montreal is the best place to sell since they have a huge amount of customers.
ZW.
I'm in Corvallis Oregon, and there are a couple of stores here that stock frpgs. Matt's Cavalcade of Comics has the best selection, but it's mainly 3.x. I tried ordering through him (he hadn't heard of C&C) twice but never got any response. Not surprising, the store is mainly comics and anime and he always looks half dead from trying to keep up with managing the store. Thousands and thousands of comics. So I just ordered over the web from TLG. Very happy.
As an aside, the two stores here that carry product never send back books that don't sell (or even reduce the price) and now all that old d&d 2e stuff that has gathered dust looks kinda cool again. Even some old 1e stuff here and there.
