Troll Lord Games

I went into a flea market yesterday and stumbled upon a gold mine of AD&D source material!!!!

I had a few minutes to kill while out with the family and thought I would take a stab in the dark and see if they had anything. I walked into a booth with a lot of sci-fi collectibles and asked if they had any D&D books. The guy said he did and started digging through a cluttered mess. He came out with two stacks of 2E AD&D source material. I got the Magic Encyclopedia, Creature Crucible (a book about werecreatures), A Forgotten Realms The Dalelands book and the old basic set players handbook from 1980. All for $20, with maps.

I was brought into the game during 3.5 so this is a god send to me. I will go back and get the rest when finances allow.

I love flea markets.

Good find! It's a real pity that WotC doesn't sell the old products on PDF anymore.

Did you get the 2 volume Magic Encyclopedia or the 4 volume Encyclopedia Magica? They both do a similar thing, but the latter goes into much more detail.

Either way, nice score. One never knows where the heart of darkness... err, the best finds for this stuff, are.

Unfortunately I only have one volume of the magic encyclopedia (vol. 2), but I am planning on loading up next time I go.

Thanks for the compliment, but sadly no.

I had purchased a basic set back in the early 80's, but didn't have a group to play with so it wasn't until a about 7 years ago that I found a group to play with. By then we were well into 3.5E

I do truly enjoy playing and wish there were more people in my neck of the woods who played.

Yeah it stinks when you're stuck in a gamer's no-man's-land. I've been there. When I was in the military LOTS of folks gamed, but when I left and moved back to a small(ish) town in Texas, I couldn't find any gamers. Luckily, when I made my way to Little Rock I quickly located fellow gamers and it was great. I left 3.5e D&D a few years back (around 2005 or so) due to the ever greater amount of prep time that was required for me to run a simple 4-5 hour session. C&C has greatly mitigated that issue for me and I've never really looked back. 3.5e is a good game which I enjoyed playing, but my time is far too limited to bother with the rules upon rules necessary to properly run it anymore.

Nice score! And it's always a good day when gaming stuff finds it's way to a loving home.

I have found that the larger flea markets will usually have someone selling old Magic, Pokemon, or Yu-Gi-Oh cards and maybe comic books. These are the best places to start looking. You can also hit stalls that specialize in used books. Usually you can get a good deal because they are just trying to get rid of something they don't usually deal with.

Yeah, other good ones are the people selling Nintendo or Sega games; also those freaky-deaks with the action figures. I try to check flea markets whenever I can... never know what you might find, like the one time I found the original Dr. Who box set for like $3.
