Used to have it and sold it for about 20 bucks. I still have it in PDF format and don't think I'll pick it up again. But yeah, great price.

If you like this race of monsters, you want to get this. If they have never interested you, you may love them after getting this. For $5 plus shipping, very worth getting if the yuan ti have ever interested you!

I love serpentine type monsters. How would a person with little to no knowledge of 3e mechanics (me) find the supplement?

Would there be vaste swathes of crunchy bits I just couldn't use or would find unintelligible or is it mostly background ideas and creative goodness?

Tep, Tree...had this one for many a year and it's definitely worth it. Even at retail, but at 4.99 jump on it if you have even a passing fancy of serpent-like creatures.

Zara, for $4.99, I'd say the value is worth it. A lot can easily be converted to C&C (monster stats & spells). PrC's and feats, not so easily. There's a good bit of fluff, though, that I'm sure could make it's way into an existing campaign.

The vast majority of it is fluff, and for "interpreting" it, all you need to know is the HD and most of their powers and skills use recognizable words to describe them, plus even if your still stumped you can likely find the term here:
http://www.d20srd.org/

So look at the stat block and trim off everything you don't want, modify anything else you think doesn't fit the C&C power level, and you have a C&C monster.

While I have no real interest in the book, for $5, it would be a good pick-up... if I had the $5 to waste on it.

Five bucks wouldn't be a waste, but the shipping certainly is! For "standard delivery" (which means Parcel Post) the cost to my zip is $6.54; Priority is $12.24. Freakin' ridiculous!!

Flat Rate Priority Envelopes are 5 bucks!!

Flat Rate Priority Boxes are 10 bucks!!

Media Rate is about 3 bucks.

So what starts out as a five-dollar book, turns into nearly 12 bucks pretty fast and not such a good deal. Just my 2 cents, but I DESPISE getting r@ped on shipping.

Do you know of anyone who ships from their own warehouse and has their own warehouse employee's to pay who ships cheaper, even Amazon wouldn't beat them because the order isn't over $25.00.

I was thinking about the shipping and remembered Overstock could beat the shipping, but these are the only Forgotten Realms books I could find:
http://www.overstock.com/search?keyword ... rchtype=nr

So even at $13 I still say its a darn good buy, awesome background, encounter areas and story ideas for the various Yuan-Ti, if you ever wanted to get inspired to use this cool reptilian race in your games, this is the book that will do it.

Check eBay first, but if you can't get it cheaper than $13 with shipping there, buy it at Paizo.

Again, I was wrong, Amazon vendors do have it at cheaper shipping, $4.99, but final price for the cheapest there is about $20, so Paizo is the best place I know of to get the lowest over all price, by at least $7.00, even with their shipping.

This is the only listing I could find on Ebay:
http://books.shop.ebay.com/Books-/267/i ... w=Kingdoms

Shipping is cheaper at $3.95, but final total price is about $23.00

Which part? That I have no real interest, that it's a good deal at $5, or that I don't have the $5 to get it? That sentence can be read a few different ways...

If The Book of Templates was on sale for $5, I'd buy that though. There's more in there that I could theoretically use.
