Paizo's Combat Pad is back!
Paizo's Combat Pad is back!
When I first saw this I thought it was pretty useless, then I was given one as a gift, and I still left it unused for months. Then one day I decided, "WTH? I may as well give it a try." and I loved it! Anyways, after a very long time of being out of stock (1 or 2 YEARS!) it is finally back, bigger and sturdier then ever before!

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Yeah, I bought this based on your recommendation a few years ago. It's great and I've used it since buying.
And I actually used it last week for running my FoB practice session.
Anyway, how much bigger is it than the original?? That's one thing that I thought could be improved . . more space for more combatants and more room for notes would be fabulous.

The over all size is not bigger, they just made the areas on the board roomier and made the board sturdier.

Here is the enlarged view so you can see how they changed it better:

Agreed! This thing is a freaking godsend for big combats... one of my former GM's had it, and it made 3.5 combats much easier-- no small feat, that! It's a great buy if you've got the money to spend on it and the extra magnet pack!
(Which... after Gen Con, I don't, sadly. Someday, darnit!)

I don't see the difference from tracking on a notepad and this except this has little bits and pieces to drop.
Can you who have used it tell me how it is better than pad and pencil for tracking?
Its dry erase, plus once you get everything labeled you just move the magnetic markers, and most of all, it clearly displays the order for everyone, not just you. It also seems to go faster with just sliding the markers around, rather than writing out all the changes every time.
Like when I run my on line games I know I am spending a fair amount of time writing down initiative, when spells started, when they will stop, and other notes. When I use this in my face to face games I fill out the tags at the beginning of the game session and it just goes quick the rest of the game session. The only thing that eats up time is when new monsters are used and I have to fill out a new tag for them.
Most of all I like how it clearly displays the info to everyone, so everyone stays on track better.

One thing to clarify is that it isn't all that large. It's about 8.5 x 11. For some reason I had envisioned it being larger so I could hang it up behind me for my players to see. That didn't work very well as it was too far away. I could see it working well if you sit it out front where all can see. I actually keep mine behind the screen and use if for my own purposes.

Yeah, its about the size of notebook paper. I don't use a screen, so mine lays out where everyone can see it once I am done writing notes and placing the counters.
