Is there any way to disable the annoying buggers?

Yeah, they started popping up a couple of days ago. A little annoying, but I just ignore them!

I think they're bogging my refresh down. My computer response on this site got slower when they began popping up. At least they're green now instead of electric/neon blue. Not so damaging to the retinas...

Apparently, there is a way to stop them as I have no idea what you're talking about... lemme load IE and see what happens.
I see. InfoLinks pop-ups on certain keywords. Yeah, I'll stick to Firefox.

Serl if you know what/how to disable in FF, I see them with it as well as in IE.

These are some tricky buggers. Those using FF may have to manually "sort of" disable them. Click on your ABP icon in the FF menu bar and look for "Infolinks" entries. Right click and disable them. Refresh and check . . keep doing until it's OK.

AdBlock Plus is a start, for sure, but also NoScript, which I also install first. It blocks all scripts on these forums, one of which comes from the infolinks.com domain.

I killed the links in IE by changing the browsers scripting to disable.
I am a newb on scripts. so not sure how or why this may be bad.

Lots of websites use them so you may find general browsing is less fun, like trying to visit YouTube, for example.

1) Open Internet Explorer (or click Start > Settings > Control Panel > Internet Options) and then click Tools > Internet Options
2) Click Security
3) Click the Internet Zone
4) Click Custom Level down below
5) Scroll to the Scripting section which is almost the last one
6) Disable Active Scripting; you can also disable Java but that is a separate process
7) Click OK until its done. Close the browser and re-open it.

Thanks Serl. That took care of it...and got rid of the annoying lag.

They don't show up in my browser either, but whether that is because of Adblock Plus, which I installed to kill the other fun text links they plastered on the boards previously or my HOSTS file I don't know.

Doubtful your HOSTS file would prevent them from showing, as a link, but would prevent you from being able to visit them. I assume you directed to the loopback (127.0.0.1)? Actually, you could be right... if its trying to run a script from that address and fails to do so, it would not display it.

I get my HOSTS file from mvps.org so I don't actually have to do the editing of the HOSTS file myself. So, by default the file does go to the loopback.
I can understand Freeyabb trying to make a profit on their free forums. Their text links they had last week were far less intrusive than what they're doing now. It doesn't change my point of view that the Troll Lords need to move the entire forum to the server space the main site is on. There should be plenty of room for it. Then if the Trolls want to put advertising on the forum, it will actually be relevant, and not simply an ad for 30% off Japanese schoolgirl outfits.
