The 'Log me on automatically each visit' option that one can check when logging in... It never works for me.

Its a cookie that's put into your web browser cache. It depends on your web browsers cookie settings. If you clear your cookies out automatically on exit, then there will be no cookie to authenticate you for the next visit.

Most every time I access the forum boards form the main Troll Lords page, I then have to log in. If, however, I go directly to the forum boards from clicking on my bookmark, I'm already logged in.

Trent_on_fire, I suggest after you log in, you bookmark the page. See if that is an easy fix to your problem.
