Hey Treebore,

The pricing for the pdf version comes with a lifetime's worth of free updates. When newer, updated versions, whether through errata, corrections, grammar, or just added material, comes out then we supply an instant file to the customer. Previously we've always charged for 2nd printings, 3rd printings, etc. The electronic market, being a different animal allows us to give you, the consumer, a constantly updated file.

This text is at the bottom of the RPGNow CKG page, I suppose I should move it up.

NOTE: The electronic version of the CKG comes with a lifetime's worth of FREE updates. Anytime we update the file, with corrections, modifications, or errata we'll send you an updated file. If there is a 2nd printing, your purchase today allows you a FREE updated file.

Thanks,
Steve

post script: The digest version price is a little skewed because that book costs almost as much as the perfect bound to make due to paper wastage.

JoetheLawyer wrote:My thoughts on the 10 dollar pricing are this: I don't have a game store anywhere nearby. I don't know what I'm getting if I plunk down full price for the book---whether it will be useful or not---worth the hardcover price. I can't tell from the table of contents how good the contents are. However, I assume I will be getting something useful out of it, and I can bet I would be willing to pay 10 bucks for that useful info. I'll even pay 10 bucks to take a chance that there is something useful in there, and not be too pissed if there wasn't anything good. It's a gamble I'm willing to take.

Let's say it turns out that there is tons of of useful stuff in the book. If that's the case, the 10 dollar purchase just lead me to buy the hardcover book, which I never would have bought sight unseen. TLG makes even more money off of me. This is what happened with me and Pathfinder. They got a ton of hardcover sales after people first checked it out by looking at the 10 buck pdf which they would never have gotten otherwise.

Thanks for posting. We appreciate the comments all the way around.

The above is a very good point. We'll fix this today.

To piggyback off Joe's comment, maybe larger previews would help drive sales, a good 10-12 non-consecutive pages, not a whole chapter, but 2-3 page chunks to really get the feel of a product, but obviously not enough that there's nothing left unread, (like a movie trailer where the whole movie is basically shown? why go?)

did that make sense? LOL

Indeed! That was an excellent suggestion. Just finished compiling the list of pages and will update now. Tim has taken over all this RPGNow stuff so I have to re-remember how to do it. ;)

I'd rather hold the book, dog-ear its pages, and run it through the Doritos Pepper challenge than e-flip a page one word at a time.
Thats all well and good Serl when you have a gaming store(s) to pick up a HC of a book. I agree with pdf's versus the actual book. No comparison. However, when you don't have access to said store(s) and shipping is more than the book itself, some of us need those pdf's or do without entirely.

That being said, I refuse to pay 31 bucks for an electronic version of a book. I'll wait til the customs on my planet in Canada can get it to me, hopefully before the CKG2 is out :)

I did not say anything about purchasing from a store. If there was that option, I might endeavor to try it but no... the store I go to is not for "modern in-print" stuff so that's moot.

But, you do have a point about idiotic shipping prices. More than once have I grimaced when getting something from the UK or Europe... and hell forbid it come from Australia or Canada. Unfortunately there is not a whole lot that can be done -- a few options that also cost extreme amounts of money (I looked into when I was considering ACE as viable) but overall sending to certain countries just sucks.
