Nice Gameshop score.
So the wife and I had to go to Springfield to sell a puppy and so while we were there I had to stop by the gameshop. (Metagames for those keeping score). The last time I was in there I got the only C&C module they had in stock.
So I go in and as luck would have it they had just gotten in the Mortality of Green mod. So I got it and also got the Role Aids Apocolypse supplement.

I didn't even know they had them in print yet. They also had a nice Dungeons and Dragons chess set and I got to look at Ptolus and the new Ravenloft book.
Problem there is not enough cash and TLG has me spoiled on pricing.

Big time. I wonder if there will ever come a time when gamers get tired of spending $30, $40, and $50 or more on gaming books these days? The trend has stayed in place a lot longer then I thought it would.
I have no problem with paying top dollar for top-notch product, but some of the big-ticket items are just a waste of money.

I know what you mean. I was interested in Ptolus but the $120 pricetag turned me off. I liek alot of Monte's work but not that much. there was also a new Medieval Fantasy game that claims to be rules light and can be played with a single d20. I thought of getting it for idea mining and maybe a test drive but not for $40.
I don't like the trend but it sadly seems to be going up rather than down.

Prices of gaming goods can go up with inflation just like everything else, but as it's been described a million times before look at the cost of products over the past 20 years. Gaming products have grown well ahead of the inflation trend. Plus, at least IMO, you get a lot less for your buck then you used to. At least it seems that way to me as of late.

I agree that inflation has something to do with it but not this much. And Ptolus is a big friggin book but, after the World's Largest Dungeon it seems there are more and more high tag items coming out these days.

Not trying to defend Ptolus's price tag, but you do get a S-House of gaming material in that book for yoyur $120 hard-earned dollars. I think you get a CD, plus even a free adventure mod or some other thing.
Not that Ptolus is my thing, but I thought that the project was a good idea overall. Let's see if Ptolus spawns the $120.00 trend...

Ptolus looked really top notch production-wise but it wouldnt fit into my C&C game easily nor would it be well placed in my WFRP2 campaign. As far as price goes, it *is* a bit too pricey but again, production values are top notch so I will give them some slack on that. Unfortunately, Ptolus was created from the ground up as a D&D 3.x setting and thus has that same kitchen sink design as Eberron. This is not a bad thing at all for the hardcore D&D gamer, but gives this product far less utility for C&C games.

Are you referring to High Medieval by Morrigan Press? If so, it's actually a pretty good system-- it's the D20 mechanic that's used in Talislanta 4e, aka the "OMNI System". Now back to your previously scheduled thread...

That sounds familiar. I'll google* it and see what I get. ( I so love that word it sounds so dirty especially when you say " I googled myself")

Another thing with Ptolus, if you had/have a problem with how high magic the FR setting is, Ptolus is just as bad if not worse.
Other that that I agree it is a fine piece of work. Somehow I think I'll use Ptolus just fine with my Banewarrens module and stuff I downloaded from the Malhavoc website over the years.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

It was High Medieval and I dled the sampler. All I have to say is I may have to pop the $40 bucks and try it out. Looks like it is right up my alley.
Never had an issue with FR as it was. In fact my own Campiagn world is one where magic is known and in a semi renissance. Not that it has taken over but there are very fantasy elements in it like magic universities and such.
But, it's not overly pervasive juts a fact of life.
