The Arcanum rpg

Post by rabindranath72 »

I have seen around that there are two editions. I am thinking about buying it. Do you suggest first or second edition?

Cheers,

Antonio

They're really 1st and 2nd printings. The 2nd printing corrected errors in the 1st printing, so I'd go for the 2nd printing.

There is a 1st and 2nd printing of the 1st edition (the one with the pentagram on the cover).

A second edition was produced by another company (googling now) and if memory serves went out of print only a few years ago. This was of course prior to Morrigan Press picking it up and making it an OMNI system game.

I suggest the 2nd printing of the 1st edition, as it is more cohesive. Of course the first printing is "cooler" because its the first, and I really like its design and layout.

The Bestiary is worth getting as well.

Also, the "Compleat" line, like "Compleat Spellcaster" and "Compleat Alchemist" are insanely useful.

Just got the book and...it is awesome! Easily the best FRPG I have ever seen. I think I will immediately work on an adaptation of an Hyborian Age campaign. The rules would fit the setting marvellously well.

I've never heard of this game before. I looked it up on the net and, from what little information I was able to find, it looks pretty awesome! Could anyone refer me to any relevant links about the game or where to find it?

I hope they fix the brokeness found in the PC game. Warriors were WAY too powerful.

The CRPG has nothing to do with the thing we are speaking about (except name)

Yeah, the Arcanum RPG was released in the 80s... Arcanum, the CRPG was not made until much later. No similarities, other than name. Even if the CRPG had some neat ideas for alchemy and so forth.... but much more in-tune with Eberron than "high fantasy" which is what the RPG is all about.
