All,

The gifts are all wrapped and ready for little fingers to tear into tomorrow morning, the ham is thawed and ready for a nice long stay in the oven, and the wassail is mixed and ready for heating tonight, so the only thing left is to wish you all a Merry Christmas!

Merry Merry to everyone! It's just about December 25th, which means it's a great time to sit back with a mulled brandy, watch the snow drift down in big thick flakes, and give thanks for the birth of the Savior.

I mean me, silly.

Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season and a Happy New Year, as well.

(I got my Wyrms books a couple days back in the mail, so it was indeed a Merry Birthmas to me.)

Rgr, here you go (this is modified from my mom's recipe which is "a touch of this, some of that, and a few of these" kind of thing, and even after I copied it a few years ago, there is still a lot of "to taste" notes in it.

Wassail ( good for mulled wine too)
1 gallon apple cider (red wine for mulled wine)
4-6 oranges (cutties or other sweet oranges are what mom likes) cut into wedges and lightly squeezed into the cider
– can add pineapple juice to further sweeten, or up to 1 cup lemon juice to tartin it up depending on the oranges
1/2 cup honey (more to sweeten if needed) – I prefer more honey than adding more sugar
1/3 cup of brown sugar (more to sweeten if needed)

In cheese cloth
6-8 cinnamon sticks – I prefer cinnamon sticks to float and not in the cheese cloth)
1 table spoon allspice (not ground)
10 -20 cloves (I prefer closer to 10, a little bit of cloves goes a long way!)
1 nutmeg ground
Mix first 4 ingredients into crock pot or Dutch oven over low – mid heat.
In cheese cloth tie off all other ingredients and put in to simmer.
Let simmer for at least 20+ min, but do not boil.
(can mix, heat, and cool, then reheat but it must be Served HOT!!!

Lurker, that sounds YUMMY!

I thought Wassail had ale in it... shows you what I know. Yeah, every Thanksgiving I grab 3-5 bottles of bojolais to mull later in the year. (Why dress up an expensive wine? While mulled wine (TRY MULLED MEAD! HEAVEN!) is tasty, I'm not going to drop 10+ bucks for a wine I'm going to flavor up so much. I digress.

Thanks for sharing! I may try that out for New Years Eve!!!!
