Just so you know...

Post by Julian Grimm »

Insomnia sucks. It really sucks when you have taken two sleeping pills and your still awake 4 hours later. Just sayin...

I don't have insomnia, just children. Same principal, though. :)

Still awake...24 hours and counting. Hard to believe that I could still function like this a few years ago.

Happened to me before. I ended doing exercise then drinking a bunch of Seven & 7's. Went right to sleep.

A former insomniac told me that in order to cope with this frustration, he took up astronomy. He bought a decent telescope and became a good amateur astronomer. It made looking back on the nightmare of insomnia almost something to be missed.

Been down this road a few times. It's a symptom not the problem. I have a 'battle plan' in place for these bouts. If I get to over 40 hours awake I call the doctor. That would be about 11 pm. The goal now is to stay relaxed and if possible get to sleep. Luckily, I am beginning to feel tired so I may only have an hour or two to go.

Damn, I've never had it that bad. But sometimes, I just can't fall asleep. It's not as cool as it sounds.

Got to sleep a few hours ago. Now I'm wore out. Gonna rest the rest of today.

I have chronic insomnia and my record is 7 days. After 4 you should see a doctor as 7 can cause real problems. Mine is due to a mental illness and if I miss a dose, it wreaks havoc with my life.

FYI, it isn't a good thing to offer medical advice on a forum, from some dude you only know through a forum.

Which is why I "only" urged him to see a true healthcare professionalism. (Just as I do in all my diabetes lectures.)

But were you asleep when you wrote this? (I'm pretty sure I'm asleep as I write this.)

Spin it as much as you want, your original post is still medical advice.

What you could of said, "As one who's been where you are, I can sympathize."

or

"As one who's been where you are, I saw my doctor after 2 days. It helped me a lot!"

Those are statements, not advice. See the difference?

No, it was advice to seek medical advice. Medical advice would consist of a suggested course of treatment. That didn't occur. ;)

Guys, I saw none of this as medical advice. It was just variations of 'see your doctor'. Anyway, I got a nice nap yesterday and slept last night. The next day or two will be about getting my sleep schedule back on track.

As I said before, this is a symptom of a larger issue and I have learned how to handle these flare ups. The one thing I have learned is no matter how well the treatment is working you will still have problems. There is no magical cure so you do the best you can.
