Behold, The Winters Dark Cometh.

Post by Julian Grimm »

For those that don't live here we're expecting our first nasty storm in years. Now this isn't one of those north US blizzards but looks to be shaping up as a good ol' Missouri Ice Storm. Those that haven't lived through those have little clue as to what happens. For those that do know what we have when one hits is close to the sixth plane of hell. The last big one was in '86 and rumors say this will be equal to them.

So in good spirits( since I love frigid cold winter weather) I am taking suggestions for adventures since we'll be holed up through this and likely teh next couple days. I'm thinking Airdhe during the WD would be appropriate. Oh and as I write this stage one, the rain storm, has begun. This will be followed by the freezing rain & ice, then the snow. Well better get my Chinese Cresteds in...

You own Chinese Cresteds? I have a novel for you to read. You will laugh very hard, so stay near the bathroom. I'll go find it and post the title and author.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Actually we breed them. I definately want the name of that novel.

We're due for the ice in Ohio by Friday, just in time for a birthday party.

"Take a Chance on Me" is the title. I'll try and find the author name later. ITs in the romance genre, but don't let that keep you from reading it. Its hilarious.

Well, if you're getting it on Friday, I'll have it be Saturday. And I was pulling for that 60 degree winter we've been having for the last week or so.

Nuts!

Yup Winter Dark is coming to Cleveland Ohio.

Forcast: 25F, Lake Effect Snow, 6-24 inches.

Yee HAW!...
But I have to say that what better way to come up with adventures then to sit around the house doing nothing but thinking about RPGs all day. Some great adventures have come to me in this amnner as well. Have fun JG!

Woke up this morning to a surreal landscape. Everything is covered in ice and the snow is due this afternoon. I'm listening to more freezing rain hit the house and loving every minute of it. I'll locate my camera and try to get you guys some pics of it. I even dug out my ol' reddish orange union suit for the occasion. ( sorry for the image there folks. )

Anyway I'm getting geared up for the game later (wife has yet to know we're playing) and just enjoying our first real winter storm in two years.

Man, it sounds beautiful. I went outside during my lunch break without a jacket; I do not like this unnatural warmth.

I'm definitely looking forward to the snow and the cold that's due tomorrow (at least here in Pittsburgh).

I'm always fond of running ice castle adventures during the winter. The one year, a player was most indignant at having to fight a snow golem.

I'm uploading the pictures now. We lost power for a bit but not long. I've been outside alot getting ideas for an adventure. I'm thinking definately during the WD on Airdhe and may involve a grendal like creature.

I'd love to see the stats for that Snow Golem BTW.

And the front yard of where my old house is. Sorry about the junk.
Yard

This is pretty much what I have envisioned parts of the winters dark to resemble.

Reminds me of my Dad's house up in Ohio!

Is the "new" house that meth house you've posted about?

Yep that's the one. I didn't take any of the actual house since there was nothing real "eye-popping" there and there is still some exterior junk there that needs to be cleaned up. All the properties are connected so it's just a few minutes walk to each place.

Dang, ice storms are very bad news. I only tried once to drive in one, and that was after 1 salt truck pass. No GO! I turned around and went back home, never again.
I hear we're getting a snow storm here in Illinois tonight. My daugher, like all kids is hoping for . . . SCHOOL CLOSED!

To Hell with that! I like a nice chill sometimes (the first chill of the year still makes me think of Halloween), but I do love my pleasant Georgia winter. 8) My wife on the other hand, loves the snow, the cold, and every other trapping of a Northern winter (she's originally from Chicago). Enjoy being trapped in your house JG, I'll go for a nice jog outside. Enjoy the gaming.

And so it begins . . . dropped about 40+ degrees from yesterday/day before, so it's about 22 or so and the rain has begun (ice underneath snow - foggetaboutit)!

They're saying about 6 to 10 inches tonight/tomorrow. Heh, I'll probably have to stay in for some C&C gaming and maybe try out my Heroscape game I just got!

Heck, it might be a weekend full of gaming . . . Life, Battleship, Stratego and of course Monopoly. 8)

Who said I was inside for all of this? I tend to spend more time outside in this type of weather than I do during summer and such. I have a hate/hate relationship with the sun.

Ugggh. My wife's the same way. She loves the winter and gets all happy whenever it looks overcast. Enjoy.

The snow finally started. Didn't get the game in tonight but have had fun teaching my daughter about the Gamecube. She's been playing Mario Party 7 with the wife and I for the past couple hours and oing really good for a 4 year old!

I can't wait to see what it looks like in the morning with the snow on. The weather dudes have predicted anywhere from 5-12 inches.

Oooh. Mario Party. I like the microphone games on 7. A group of adults playing that game and a couple of beers...things get pretty brutal. "I'm taking your star. Now grovel before me!" Hopefully we'll have our Wii soon so that we might play again (we traded our Gamecube in along with a ton of other stuff to get the new Wii). Since you have a Gamecube; did you ever try Eternal Darkness?

Ahh, to be trapped in the house with nothing to do. The topic of gaming comes up and to play our favorite RPG in the chilled air, next to a crackling fire, listening to descriptions of the ice trolls that round the gnarled, crstal-colored snow tree...

Roll initiative!

Not yet but I am getting more and more interested in my GC over the others since there are actual games on the GC and story simulations on the other systems.

I finally decided on a Wii for later on since it is more family friendly in teh way of pricing and games and doesn't seem to have the breakdowns that the other systems are showing. Also having to excercise some while playing is a plus.

My current aggrvation is Metriod Prime. The bosses are just evil!

Yeah, Metroid Prime is an awesome game! It's just one giant puzzle and I love it! The same goes for the Zelda games. Head to your local game store and pick up a used copy of Eternal Darkness. It's a totally different experience.

Well, the foul winter weather has started in my neck o f the woods. Calling for 1-2 inches by morning, followed by 2-3 days of snow.

It's already putting down that great winter mix, rain and snow. But I guess it's OK, since I'm in for the night with no plans to go anywhere. A friend is leaving at 3 am to go hunting at his brohters, which is several hours to the south. Hopefully the roads won't be too awfully bad for him.
