Troll Lords in the new DCC RPG

Goodman Games just released the PDF of the new DCC RPG to those who pre-ordered the rulebook. I was flipping through, minding my own business, when I discovered a half-page entry in the monsters section that made me do a double take. Finally! Stats for the troll lords!

"Troll lords are hilarious raconteurs indigenous to southern climes. They have a staggering capacity for alcohol consumption, a fondness for large swords and other weapons, an inherent aversion to discipline and order, and yet a strong martial tendency and knowledge of military tactics."

Someone seems to be trolling the Troll Lords...

Doug Kovacs, artist for DCC, told me that the Trolls were referenced in the book. He mentioned it at GaryCon. DCC is very tempting for some one-shots, and Doug's covers literally make the book and modules for me. Haven't examined the system closely at this point.

DCC-RPG has become the go-to game for one of my friends when we game together. When the gang gets together as a whole, it's C&C! So it looks like I'm branching into two RPGs. I haven't done that since the mid-80s when we either played AD&D or Gamma World! What is old is new again.

This seems perfectly natural. The Goodman guys and the Trolls are like butter and pancakes.

My group is much like this, only we're bouncing around between OD&D, C&C, and DCC. I wonder if at the end we'll blend things together and wind up with some house-ruled game which has elements of all three.

Philosophy of OD&D, structure of C&C, weirdness of DCC, something like that...

I'm pretty much bouncing back and forth between Savage Worlds(various genres and plot point settings)and Castles and Crusades. I sort of looked at One Ring, but I never totally embrace playing in Middle Earth, despite loving Tolkien. Looks great, however. Damn it all, if Doug Kovacs covers aren't drawing me into DCC. He's also responsible for the cover of the old and new Codex of Aihrde. He's quickly becoming one of my new favorite artists. I suppose I'll have to look more closely at the actual system. Seems like Goodman says,"...npc's were meant to be killed.". That sort of adventuring would be fine for one shots, butC not for long-term campaigns. Still yet, I can see owing the main book, and framing each of those groovy looking module covers on my wall. Lol
